What/How Many Maternity Clothes Have You Bought?

midori1999 · 04/03/2011 22:00

I feel a bit like I've gone mad, but I am wearing everything and figure some of it (Isabella Oliver ruched/wrap tops) will also be wearable after the birth and/or for breastfeeding. I have a friend who is due in 7 weeks and other than one maternity top/dress type thing I gave her, hasn't bought a single item of maternity clothing! Shock

Erm, it's an excuse to shop. More than that, it's an excuse to clothes shop! I've bought quite a bit already (only 19 weeks so not particularly big already) - work trousers, two dresses, a few tops - and intend to get more now I've been paid Smile

emmah194 · 04/03/2011 22:36

I've been buying stuff gradually as I get bigger and grow out of all my pre-pregnancy clothes. Also I get bored with outfits so tend to be a bit of a regular shopper anyway Grin. I'm 31+4 and so far have 3 pairs maternity jeans, 1 pair work trousers, 1 work skirt (I can wear jeans to work some days, cutting down the need for smarter clothes), maternity vests, a couple of jumpers, a pile of long sleeve t-shirts and 6-7 (possibly more) tops of varying descriptions. Oh, and I had to buy a maternity coat because I couldn't so any of mine up and its was/is still too cold go be out with an unbuttoned coat.

Sparklies · 04/03/2011 22:45

Waaaaay too much. This is my third pregnancy and each time I want to buy new stuff - I use the excuse I'm pregnant and showing in different seasons but really I just like maternity clothes. It's about the only time I feel happy about my figure because when not pregnant my belly is yucky, but it's a feature when pregnant as I am one of those lucky "swallowed a watermelon" women. So I feel a lot more inspired to buy clothes. I have far, far more than I need or will ever likely manage to wear, which is foolish of me.

I will now hang my head in shame.

YogaMummy2B · 04/03/2011 22:51

Oh golly, I love fashion and clothes as much as the next person ( perhaps a little more) but have bought very little as I have managed to work in with my pre pregnancy wardrobe reasonably well.
I purchased 2 pairs of mamalicious jeans (I adore these, excellent fit and mega comfy!) one skinny black and one bootleg indigo denim.I pair of mamalicious jeggings, also love these and great for dressing up/nights out. Today I bought a very cool pair of benetton cropped, elasticated leg cuff jeans ( only 4 weeks to go, so slightly against my principles but finish work soon and wanted another option.)
I pair of work trousers.
2 H&M white tops, 2 Isabella Oliver scoop neck tops, 1 IO wrap top and 1 mamalicious tunic. That's it! I just work the basics in with my regular clothes and have gotten loads of nice compliments from people saying that I have lovely maternity wear.

Janoschi · 04/03/2011 23:10

I'm almost 30 weeks and yesterday I finally gave up on my non-maternity jeans and went out to H&M and bought one top and two pairs of black trousers. If I can get through the rest of the pregnancy with these, I'll be a happy woman.

Loathe shopping at the best of times. It's definitely NOT fun when puffing up and down stairs and struggling to bend over in changing rooms.

H&M is pretty good though. Not so many of those tenty dresses.

pissovski · 04/03/2011 23:38

i didn't buy any until i was after 20 weeks. Bought 3 pairs of over the bump pants for work, 2 tops, a cardi (which i really like!) and a lightweight jacket - all in the sale :) More recently i have bought a pair of OTB jeans (having got some underbump ones in Next clearance which just seem to fall down :( but they were only £3). I have also bought some tops in a size up for work.

think i might need to buy another pair of jeans to wear when i finish work in a few weeks times.

PipPipPip · 05/03/2011 01:08

I couldn't have gotten through this pregnancy with some over-the-bump jeans from Next. They're a godsend.

Also bought some under-bump-jeans, about four maternity tops and some second-hand maternity dresses. Was given some leggings.

I work in a casual environment, so haven't had to buy 'workwear' but mainly wore jeans all pregnancy.

I've managed to last through winter without buying a maternity coat, nor have I needed maternity knickers nor skirts.

Some cheap, long vests from Primark have been fantastic for bridging the (growing) gap between where my jeans end and my top begins!

reallygrumpy · 05/03/2011 05:34

This is my second pregnancy but when I got all my old maternity clothes down from the loft I hated most of them so I'm going to eBay them. I've bought: 2 pairs of skinny jeans, 1 from Gap (which are a bit big and don't stay up) and 1 from seraphine; 1 pair of gap
skinny cargos which are a good alternative to jeans; h&m leggings; 2 pairs of work trousers (also gap); black pencil skirt (IO sale); black jersery wrap top (IO sale); various tops for work and non-work; oh and a black chiffon shirt which I wore last sat eve with skinny jeans. I'm hoping not to need a maternity coat cos I'm due in July. I've found gap mat stuff quite good for basics and work clothes and it's all 30% off with the discount voucher.

2 pairs maternity trousers
a pack of size 12 pants (up a size)
2 tops from ebay (£6)
2 non-maternity tops that are loose over the bump but should be wearable after

I am 20+2. I really like clothes but am a bit short on cash atm and don't feel inclined to part with money for stuff I'll only be able to wear for 17 more weeks (am being induced at 38 weeks).

However I love the Isabella Oliver stuff and if money was no object I'd be wearing it every day!

festive · 05/03/2011 09:18

Far, far too much!
2 pairs leggings from mamas and papas
2 pairs skinny jeans Topshop (that no longer fit now am 28 wks)
2 dresses (one bit dressy, one daytime) mamas and papas
3 stretchy scoop tops mamas and papas (3 for 2 offer)
undie sets mamas and papas
sis bought me some pjs from jo jo as a bday pressie
2 vests topshop
2 knitted dresses (H&M)
2 knitted tops gap
cardi gap
tunic type thing gap
am wearing all these with lots of cardies / wrap tops from pre pregnancy as all my knitwear still seems to work ok.

bought lots of mamas and papas stuff when it was 30% off all mat wear a few weeks ago and same for gap on the 30% voucher.

hoping that will be enough but as still have 12 weeks to go and weather may change lots may need a top up in few weeks!

Abcinthia · 05/03/2011 09:39

I only bought:

1 pair of maternity trousers
3 tops
1 dress

To be fair though, I had no money, all my jeans fit me during my pregnancy (and were comfy) and I had quite a tops that still fitted.

lilly13 · 05/03/2011 09:41

2 pairs of skinny/stretch jeans by heidi klum(destination maternity usa)
1 pair of skinny black pants (destination maternity usa)
1 pair of ponte pants (destination maternity usa)
1 pair of leggings (destination maternity usa)
1 pair of maternity tights (destination maternity usa)
1 roomy black dress (max & co; non-maternity)
2 maternity turtlenecks (USA)
4 cheap t-shirts for yoga (peacocks)
4 roomy sweaters (non-maternity, but look great and work well, will give to mom afterwards)
2 long cardigans (non-maternity also)
1 pregnancy trunk suit (emily evans -- best purchase!)

i am 30.5 weeks now so been using these since jan. i think this is more than enough... i don't use tights, leggings and dress at all btw. my figure just looks much better in slim jeans and long tops...

violetwellies · 05/03/2011 09:42

2 pairs of 3 sizes large jods in a sale. 2 pairs of Seraphine leggings,a jumper dress in 4 sizes larger from Debenhams sale, 2 dresses in 3 sizes larger from a local boutique and lots of yummy Hot Milk underwear. Ive hated most of the maternity stuff Ive seen but lurve the Seraphine leggings :)

stegasaurus · 05/03/2011 12:14

2 pairs of jeans from Dorothy Perkins sale so paid £10 at most each pair (also was lent 2 pairs by my sister).
2 long-sleeved tops, one from H&M and one from New Look
1 smarter top for going out in
1 hoodie and 1 cardigan from Primark but several sizes bigger.
Also was given a dress and a cardigan as Christmas presents.
That's it, as I wear a uniform to work and am still wearing some tops, jumpers and cardigans from pre-pregnancy.
Apparently my sister-in-law has only bought 2 items of maternity clothing.

witches · 05/03/2011 15:46

I am in awe of the people who made it to 30weeks before buying maternity???? i was struggling at like 8! seriously had no choice everythng had to be packed away no chance of wearing and not cutting off circulation. I moaned a lot at start and my husband, who obviously knows me well, said look at it as a challenge and get a load of new stuff! Smile
I have eventually found mat jeans in next and I am wearing them for first time today was under the bump a bad move as they keep falling down?

midori1999 · 05/03/2011 15:52

Thanks. I feel much better now. I don't normally like shopping, nor am I that bothered about clothes, but I am really enjoying being able to walk around pregnant (bed rest throughout last pregnancy, so only left the house for hospital appointments). I am planning on TTC quite soon again after this baby, so I should get a lot of use out of things.

I've bought:

3 pairs of maternity jeans
2 maternity wrap tops (1 is IO but got off Ebay so was a bargain!)
4 maternity tops
1 nursing top I can wear now too
1 pair of maternity leggins
1 maternity cardigan
1 maternity coat

I also has a couple of larger, non maternity tops and leggings and a couple of maternity vests, a pair of jeans and a blouse from my last pregnancy.

I have been in most of it since 14/16 weeks, so should get a decent amount of wear out of it. I'm only 23 weeks now and am HUGE already. Above mentioned friend is about half my size bumpwise and ten weeks ahead of me! Shock

Workwear:
2 stretchy black dresses from ASOS
1 smartish black dress from topshop
1 jersey black "pencil" (more like stubby crayon!) skirt from topshop
1 grey wrap dress from topshop
couple multipack t shirt tops from Next
Lots of mat tights - getting on with mothercare's now with a pair of pants over the top, although also wearing non-mat M&S XL light support on stretchy dress days.

Casual:
1 floral topshop dress
2 jeans - 1 ebay Isabella Oliver light blue and 1 indigo skinny bootleg from topshop
1 denim skirt from DPs

These are the items I actually wear - I have also speculatively bought lots of things I can't bear! They will (should) go straight on ebay. I have to be smart for work, the black dresses and wraps work well with a silk scarf or string of pearls, I've always struggled a bit with smart trousers although one of my colleagues who is also PG was wearing a very respectable pair from DPs the other day. I can't justify the expense (or expanse) of tailored maternity stuff, particularly as my boobs haven't grown much so lots of tops and jackets are huge. I'm otherwise living in denim skirt/jeans and non-mat long sleeve tshirts and cardigans.

Misty9 · 05/03/2011 16:15

Workwear:

1x black trousers from New Look (under bump)
1x black trousers from Next (under bump and bit too baggy on the leg)
long tops (non-maternity) from places like Next

Casual/workwear:
Bought today from Debenhams Red Herring maternity range and VERY impressed with it!
1x black short sleeved dress
1x pretty shirt (long)
1x checked shirt
1x blouse/cardi combination (can't separate them)

Also bought 1x lovely black flowery dress from New Look maternity range.

Just gotta get some maternity jeans now and I think that'll do with the addition of leggings and a couple of long cardis.
I'm quite enjoying wearing things to show off my bump :)
