Have had two m/cs and two dds. I've now reached 9 weeks 5 days. Had a bleed early last week and a scan at the end which showed a lovely healthy baby. However... I have a large cyst on each ovary and my uterus contracts a lot hence the aches. The EPU was very very busy so I was given a prescription for Cyclogest to calm the uterus down but not really told what was going on, whether the scan was normal, whether the uterus contracting is serious etc etc etc. I've tried phoning them back but I know they're busy and I don't want to be a pain. I have constant back ache and if my bladder or other area is even slightly full this aggrevates everything. The back ache is causing me to wake during the night.

Is this normal? Just want some reasurrance so I can stop focusing on this with fear. Would love to hear from anyone else having similar problems or remembers it. Remember once reading that each pregnancy gets a little more painful - is that all that's happening.

Thanks

I think it is normal, I have all sorts of backaches, and cramps since the begining. I have two previous miscarriages as well. Am now 12 weeks.

Can't give any informed reassurance Wills I'm afraid, but was just wondering how you were and intending to mail you. So glad you had such a good scan result!

I can deffo subscribe to the each pregnancy more twinge-y theory though.

My personal view is yes, of course the EPU is busy, but if you have been prescribed medication you are unsure about, and still experiencing a worrying level of discomfort, and with a history of previous m/c, then you are a prime and legitimate candidate for being seen again, busy unit or not. Go gettem!

I can tell you that each pregnancy gets a little more painful as i am on my second now and i have had not such a great time, i can also understand about the bladder being slightly full and getting pains in back and stomach as this has been happening to me especially at night.

I would say it was just stretching pains and your body preparing for the months ahead.

But if i was you i would either go back or phone up and ask as they should help you, you will not be being a pain thats what they are there for so ring so you can put your mind at ease

Thanks for your feedback. Its really helped. Part of my reluctance to approach the EPU is that I know I'm getting special treatment already. The head of the EPU knows me from previous m/cs and from a dramatic ending to dd2s pregnancy. She's quite a "forcefull" lady and I don't want to upset her because I like the "special" treatment that I get. This is probably me being completely silly and I should simply phone her.

Anyway a friend phoned last night and said that her work colleague had cysts and that these, depending on size, can cause quite a lot of pain. Possibly this is the cause. Might explain why I can't bear anything to touch my stomach. Wearing suits at the moment is proving hard. Oh well roll on a few more months (more like weeks) in when I can move to mat wear.

god I am sure the cysts must hurt.

I had sooo many aches and pains this time round - still do but have stopped focussing on them so much.

katzguk · 21/10/2005 12:46

when i was first pg with dd2 i couldn't bare anything on my tummy, until about 24 weeks, it was a real pain because i had bumpn for maternity clothes but huge boobs due to be pg, clothes were impossible

katzguk · 21/10/2005 12:47

that should read no bump fore maternity clothes!

Wills · 21/10/2005 13:09

That's it exactly! Nothing can touch my stomach. This is hopefully successful pregnancy number 3 so bump is definitely bigger than normal but even so I'm not into mat clothes yet. Just can't bear anything at all to touch. Wishing I worked in a place that allowed tracksuit bottoms or that it was summer and I could wear swingy dresses and most importantly.... no tights. Think the cysts would still hurt but at least I wouldn't be touching my tummy.
