New Hyperemesis Support thread founded by the lovely LucindaE

As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Oh LovelyBunch - that is such a.... well a pregnant thing to do! I'm sure the old ladies watching were giving each other knowing looks!!!

Good for you I say. Get it down you

CakeForBreakfast · 31/03/2011 14:53

I saw the GP today. She was concerned about the rapid weight loss and has prescribed me cyclizine. I asked her about Zofran and she got back to me saying it was not a first or even second line of treatment for various scary reasons! I thought about arguing with her but have just accepted the cyclizine. I will take it tomorrow. Heres hoping.

On the up side, today I have kept down a sandwhich! I will celebrate with a sip of water and a little snooze while dd is watching a dvd doing something clever and important with educational toys

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 31/03/2011 15:14

cake - Glad you got some meds, expect the cyclizine to knock you off your feet for about a week but it does lift so persevere :) I'm sure they were looking at me a bit Hmm not knowingly! I was in such a state I paid and realised when fetching DD from preschool that I had left my card in the card reader so had to rush back in the hopes that some honest person had handed it in. Luckily they had. That's me embarrassing myself in Sainsburys twice in two hours Blush

My DD is also doing something education and clever Wink

caramellokoalalover · 31/03/2011 16:40

Great news about the scan Boosa.

Coconuts laughing at you having to scoff easter buns. I have had to have the grapes weighed and paid for on entering supermarket before so I can eat them as I go round the aisles. People must think you have some sort of eating disorder!

Hope the cyclizine does the trick Cake, works for lots of women so fingers crossed. See you in a few days when you come out of the zombie state Grin.

nitnat I think it was grumblin with the extreme reaction to the xmas pudding display. It was one thing I could eat at the time bizarrely but the sight of the raw turkeys had me heaving. Seasonal displays seem particularly troublesome! I was at my worst point with DS during Easter 2008 and I was so upset that I felt no love for the chocolate displays. Seemed so against my nature.

DS is of course watching Rastamouse creatively finger painting whilst taking inspiration from this morning's play with the sensory basket Grin.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 31/03/2011 16:47

Caramello I must have looked I was binging cuz I was literally stuffing them in I had hamster cheeks and I was gagging at the same time. If you ever see anyone do that, it'll be me, so say hi! Grin

marylou242 · 31/03/2011 16:48

Cocoanuts that's so funny! I had a craving for hot cross buns and bought two packs today, haven't eaten them yet though and I think I might have changed my mind about them now.

Boosaphena glad your scan was okay.

Cake good luck with the cyclizine. I started mine yesterday and it's definitely helping, but wears off after 3 or 4 hours. I feel quite spaced out but I'm not sleeping very well at the moment so that doesn't help I suppose. I ate and kept down a huge sandwich for lunch so that's good news. The doctor said to take it only when I have to. Ermmm, so that'll be all the time then....

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 31/03/2011 16:52

They are 2 for £1 at sainsburys. I have eaten all 8. Well 7, DD had one :)

LucindaE · 31/03/2011 17:17

Diege That must have been nerve wracking about the bleeding, its not fair to have both that and Hyperemesis. How are you feeling generally?
NitNat I wish the relaxation area was not just virtual with comfy cushions and any form of refreshment that doesn't make you heave besides the hands serving...I remember well, I think just before Christmas, when you reported that you had been bringing up 'coffee grounds' and we all were urging you to go in as a medical emergency, as they doctor seemed so indifferent...I remember Grumblin and the Christmas pudding display, and hoping you had a convenient carrier bag to hand, too, oh dear.
Where is MummyAgain?
Boosepheena I am glad you find it OK in hospital, and how did scan go?
Ski Done like an expert, that admission...But a week is a long long time...
MaryLou Really sorry crisps and Lucozade no good. Presumably coke no good either, or ironbru? Have you any mint growing now that might do for a frsh mint tea? Are jelly and ice lollies also not acceptable? I did actually eat cream crackers, I have just remembered. Sorry about DS beginning on terrible two's, what timing on top of everything else.
Any takers for soda bread?
Cocoanuts funny and not funny about hot cross buns.
Caramel Forceps deliveries are horrible! I do so hope you get off easier this time, after this prolonged Hyperemesis you deserve a nice easy water birth... Hope you read my praise of you and Grumblin earlier, and NitNat too, though I hope it is finally leaving her.
Wheedle The Best of Luck.
Cake Funny and not funny about those hot cross buns!
Take care everyone...

Sorry, Cake I messed up that bit, BlushCocoanuts is the hot cross buns scoffer, I meant to wish you all good luck with the cyclazin!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 31/03/2011 17:32

Lucinda you do well to remember everyone, you're allowed a slip up here and there. I bet you have a spreadsheet on us all Grin

Diege · 31/03/2011 17:37

Hi Lucinda, not feeling too bad thanks - 8 weeks and thinking I'm into my 9th week (sort of) so that's just a few left to get through until things improve?? (I'm lucky in that it does get slowly better for me after 12 weeks).
A dliemma that people might be able to help with. If you always throw up, without fail, at a certain time of the day (for me 5/6pm ish) do you think it's better to:
a. Try and ignore that it's going to happen and try and stem the nausea by eating bits and pieces, knowing that it may well appear again?
b. Go with it and be sick before the food's ready (doesn't need much prompting - spitting down the loo is enough) knowing that I have a better chance of keeping down any food I may then be able to eat afterwards?

theonlyhb2 · 31/03/2011 17:57

coconuts my Tesco trips are normally with a capri sun & a sandwich so I am always paying for empty things.....its so funny when you dont look pregnant yet and the looks people give you :)

caramello how very honest of you re. the grapes....I find a nice bunch and snack on as I go round. I didnt last time and it cost me nearly a fiver!!! Is that considered theft? [hmmm]

Lucinda, I am always amazed that you remember everyone! it is most impressive.

my coughing is less therefore so is the puking.....maybe when I recover I wont even have morning sickness? am I still allowed to join in if that happens??!!

We have completely organised/tidied the whole house. If I dont spend the night coughing I shall work tomorrow. No point staying at home, nothing to be done.

Ikea did nearly kill me off, I shouldnt of gone, too tired, too much coughing, too much walking and spent £200......but the new rug is AMAZING! I just like sitting on it or walking over it barefoot (I made my mum do it in Ikea :) )

nitnatnaboo · 01/04/2011 09:52

LOL at Lucinda's spreadsheet! I pictured her using one of those boards they used to use in war films to poke the warships round with sticks, with little green stick people for us and poking us into various areas entitled:

"In Hospital"
"In bed"
"Having Scan"
"Trying new drug"
"Having Acupuncture"
"In Ikea, resting on trying out furniture"
"Gone off peanut butter, new foodstuff required"
"Gone off milkshake, new drink required"
"Eating crumpets with gay abandon"
"Attempting hot cross bun eating World record"
"Public Puking"
"Toilet sitting bath puking"
"Puking at food adverts/displays"
"Paying for empty food packets"
"Down to vomiting "only" 2-3 times per day"
"Gone back to work"
"Nominating GP/nurse/husband/helpful colleague for medal"
"Plotting painful death of GP/nurse/husband/"helpful" colleague"

Diege - I'd go with option B - go with the flow, then you can eat more afterwards.

Theonly - you would still qualify for the thread, as an ex-sufferer, which I hope I am going to be very soon Grin

nitnatnaboo · 01/04/2011 09:56

"Marylou* Rich Tea biscuits? (apologises in advance for any ill effects). I found them more palatable than crackers.

caramellokoalalover · 01/04/2011 10:00

Lol Nitnat, love your visualisation of Lucinda's battle plan with her HG troops! Hopefully some of us are moving out of enemy territory and retreating to safer ground this weekend!

theonly you have to stay around! You move into higher rank as an all wise exsufferer and survivor, much needed for those still in the throes or contemplating inflicting this on themselves in the near future.

Think the power of the crumpet is wearing off...this morning's is not sitting well...am almost out of carbs to try so luckily I don't have long to go. Off to scan bakery aisle shortly to look for new substitute.

Lucinda thanks for your kind words, as always am in awe that you manage to think of us all so often. You have a lot of good karma in the karma bank.

Diege · 01/04/2011 10:04

I have a good substitute for you Caramel - Costa Coffee mixed berry muffin. Has worked a treat for me this morning!
Thanks NITNAT! Ended up going for that option involuntarily anyway. Will never eat fresh orange juice ice lollies again

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 01/04/2011 10:09

Diege - The orange juice lollies are all that keeps me going :)

Nitnat - Love that list Grin

Well strange as it may seem, I forgot to take my tablet this morning. I haven't been sick and have eaten some yogurt for breakfast. So either a) someone is playing an april fool, b) my HG has magically disappeared or c) the one I don't want to contemplate that things are not ok in there. Confused and worried. I am 13+6.

Perhaps just a good day? Someone reassure me that I will feel ill tomorrow please!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 01/04/2011 10:10

Oh and caramel - Hot x buns are lovely :)

grumblinalong · 01/04/2011 11:17

Coconuts - I had about 20 hours of not being sick (think I was about 12-13 weeks) and I panicked thinking something must be wrong but it came back. I think maybe you have odd days where there are no hormone surges to irritate the stomach so sickness subsides a little. You'll be fine (ie sick, so not fine!) tomorrow, reassuring pat on back and hand hold Grin

Nitnat - Love the list, I'm not sure how lucinda keeps track either. I'm always having to add another post because I forgot someone/something. You definitely seem perkier, lets hope you're waving bye to HG.

caramel sorry the HG has won over the crumpets, have you tried lightly toasted scoth pancakes with butter? They help a bit for me.

theonly you can't leave! I need a survivor to keep me going with 'Oh I ate this choc brownie/cream cake/curry today and felt great' so I can think, that'll be me in 2 and half months time, stuffing myself silly.

Diege Glad bleedings stopped. Go for option B, I always feel worse for longer if I fight the vomit urge.

I cut my cyclizine down to one a day (inspired to experiment by nitnat coming off her meds) and what a mistake, spew city here for the past 2 evenings. Has anyone else got a real problem with pasta? I ate the tiniest bowl on Wednesday night and felt terrible until it all came back up. Its only flour and egg isn't it? Don't know why it's not acceptable?!?!

OP posts:
ElliottsMummy · 01/04/2011 11:59

Asked other half to get crumpets yesterday but they didn't have any so he came back with bagels - suprisingly good with a bit of dairylea and ham on - hopefully that might help one of you with a carb alternative?!?!? :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 01/04/2011 12:23

Grumbling - it didn't last long that yogurt reappeared when i went to brush my teeth. Phew! Went and had a little lay down and took a cyclizine, am now feeling like usual, little nauseous.

I can usually manage on two tablets a day depending on what time i wake up. After today I certainly won't forget to take it again!

Elliottsmummy - funnily enough I can't get enough pasta lately. i have been making my own pasta salads, with deli chicken or with tuna and making sure I put loads of salady veg bits in to try and get me to eat something relatively nutritious. Covered in salad cream Grin it makes a lovely lunch and DD can help me make it so she is actually doing something productive instead of watching TV and DVDs! Perhaps you could try noodles or rice? I love bagels with philadelphia on :)

caramellokoalalover · 01/04/2011 13:10

Thanks for all the carb suggestions! I have had affairs with all except the scotch pancakes so will give them a go I think. Maybe with raspberry jam too, that seems to agree (at least mentally anyway).

coconuts I will leave the hot cross buns for you in case I reduce supplies and you run out! Oh and reduced sickness can be down to baby not growing so much today, try not to worry too much, you'll be happily puking again tomorrow!

MummyAbroad · 01/04/2011 13:26

hello ladies, sorry for the absence. I've been really struggling to get the basic in life done (feed, wash and clothe DS and me) house is a tip, loads of work pending and I'm exhausted! and feeling sorry for myself

just vommed up my sickness meds Sad and now I am really worried that HG will kick in big time. I am nine weeks and it turned really nasty (all day vomming, nothing kept down and hospitalised) at 9 weeks last time

sorry for the me me me post and shameless beg for sympathy! hope you are all well as can be.

xxxxx

nitnatnaboo · 01/04/2011 14:10

grumblin sorry meds escapade didnt work out Sad
pasta is well dodgy. plain pasta = recipe for instant vom. Pasta + sauce seems to fill stomach up so quickly it rejects the whole lot. Lots of my teatime vomits have been pasta meals. Envy
Tomorrow it will have been a week since I have vomited food. Hurrah!

.

My current carb of choice is La Brea olive bread, toasted with goats cheese log (not the mouldy illegal one) and black pepper. This has been lunch for three days.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 01/04/2011 14:18

Ah mummy sorry you are feeling so rubbish. Did you manage to find a new cleaner after the last one? On many days I didn't get me or DD dressed so don't worry about that. My housework really slipped, washing was piling up everywhere.

Did you see the whole tablet in your vom? I have always been told that if I vom immediately after and see the whole tablet I can take another. But only if I can be sure I saw the whole thing.

Try and find something fluid wise that you can keep down. Watery hot choc, lemonade, lollies, anything at all to try and avoid the hospital.

I was at my worst at around 7-9 weeks also so can fully sympathise.

Gentle hugs for you xx
