As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

upside: woke this morning in the new bed after having the best night sleep for months (both of us)

downside: not realising one of our dogs had escaped last night, and not even realising til half an hour after someone came round asking if we had lost one of our dogs.......i fear for the safety of our child. This is 40kg of dog......how did we not notice for 10 hours?! Why did the other dog not tell us in morse code?

I am now off to Ikea, cough is a little better so the inhalers and meds are working!

Hope everyone gets extra-crispy crumpets today xxxx

Boosaphena · 30/03/2011 15:10

Gosh ikea... I can't face that when I'm fighting fit, no children and 12 hours sleep behind me so good on you.
I also had v bad travel sickness when little and read there was a link.
As predicted I'm having a not too good day today. Started at 5.30 waking to take cyclizine as I had to be out driving dd to school at 8.30. By 7.30 I was puking my muffin into the sink with ds clinging on to my dressing gown having done a down the leg poo. ( him not me!) I spent their breakfast wretching and heaved all the way to school. It got better once out in the fresh air and I've held down some lunch.
Going to weigh myself now and see if it's stabilised at all.
I hope everyone is having better days. Xx

Hello ladies, havn't been on here for a while. Spent a week in hospital being rehydrated. DS (2.5) was very cool about it and was allowed in to see me, made friends with all the old ladies in with me. Have only left the house once since coming back from hospital on Friday. On Cyclizine and Ondanestron and lovely GP has signed me off work for a month. Line manager fine with it, as this pg is taking a very similar pattern to last one. Spending savings on having DS in nursery full time - he usually goes 3 days a week. Managing to get up and dressed most days, and am eating and drinking quite a bit, madly monitoring the colour of my wee! Definitely sending DH for the snip after this one's born.

Boosaphena · 30/03/2011 15:27

Bikerunski am in a v similar position to you, was I'm hospital last Wk too. Have told hubby if he doesn't do it I'll find 2 bricks... Not that I'm heartless you understand! :)

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2011 15:47

Hi Boosaphena How far gone are you? Is this your first? Did you have to do all that glamorous weeing in a jug>

Boosaphena · 30/03/2011 15:50

This is my 3rd (!) I'm 11+6. Yep when I could wee I was carting it around in little White cups. My hand still hurts from the cannula! How far along are you?

LucindaE · 30/03/2011 16:13

Boossephena and Ski So sorry to hear of this dismal news! I didn't realise that things were getting that bad, you poor things. Did you have to go to emergency, or was it from the GP's? Ski A week? You must have been in such a bad way. Were they changing the meds all the time? Boosephena when were you in? Thickhead here didn't even realise. No wonder you will have no nonsense about the snip for O/H...
Let me lead you to the 'Sympathy Section' of this thead, where you will lie on silken cushions and be waited on by pairs of hands, as in the Beauty and the Beast.

Lucinda I am 5foot 8 and usually about a healthy 10st 10lb, so a size 10-12. I put loads of weight on just before I got pregnant and was at 12 stone almost, and lost half a stone the first few weeks. I am now 11st 9lb so not put on what I lost yet. I think I am destined to have big babies. I have a feeling this one will hit 10lb. But DH is also a stocky 6ft 2. We aren't a small couple in the height department but luckily not overweight. I have to try and keep my BMI within normal ranges due to my PCOS.

DD's delivery was not easy, I just did not have the capacity to push her out so ended up with episiotomy and a ventouse assistance.

Having a bit more of a positive day today after a disastrous start. Woke up to a non working fridge. I go to pour milk into DD's eggs for breakfast and it came out in a big yellow lump, cue heaving sesh in the sink. Lovely!

So went out and bought a whole chicken and made a big pasta salad - with loadsa salad cream obviously! Had loads for lunch and will send some to work with DH tomorrow and hopefully my LL will be sorting a new fridge by the end of the day.

Have spent the day eating pasta, and watching all the toy story films with DD as it is raining here.

Bikerunski - there is nothing glamourous about wandering up and down hospital corridors with a cardboard container full of wee in one hand and another full of sick in the other! Grin

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 30/03/2011 16:19

Xposts Lucinda! I have also suggested the snip for DH. He isn't keen! We are only 23 and 26 so his argument is that we might want another when we're older.... erm unless he's going to do the pregnancy, HG and delivery then no!

Boosaphena · 30/03/2011 16:48

LucindaE I was in in the middle of last week for a couple of days. I went in via my gp it was all very calm and I found it actually to be quite restorative. Ha ha yes, if you didn't realise how crappy it's been you'd be forgiven for thinking I was a little harsh on hubby. Fortunately he is very sympathetic and doesn't ever want me to go through this... Either that or he never ever wants to hold my hair back and listening to my whinging and crying in between my puking!

grumblinalong · 30/03/2011 17:25

Hi all,

How weird that you're all onto talking about getting your DH to have the snip, I just booked in with my GP this aft to talk about my sterilisation 6 weeks post birth! My DH has steadfastly refused to have the snip and the obstetrician recommended I never get preg again due to x3 HG screwing up my thyroid so my tubes are being tied! I told DH just now on the phone and he said 'Don't do anything without us talking it through, you might want another.' I told him to F off, terrible I know but there is no way on earth!

boo sorry to hear you've been in hospital but it does allow HG women the rest we need. How are you feeling now?

caramel On the home stretch now...hope you're feeling confident about the birth, did you have a VB or CS with your first?

nitnat Your weeks are flying now eh? When did you come off the meds?

coconuts The toy story films have been regular in my house too - Toy Story 2 is my fave. Glad your day picked up.

bike Glad you are getting your childcare support, it eases the stress so much when you don't have to stress about it.

hey to marylou, luce, grandma, littlewizz, elliots, theonly and fluffy - how's news from your HG world? Also mummy how you holding up in the heat? Think about you regularly having to deal with HG in hot climate.

lucinda I have a huge school boy (DS1, 7) who has lost x2 school jumpers this week, grr! And a sleeping pre-schooler snoring on my knee as I type so sorry it's all a bit waffly!

Waves from Yorkshire sorry to anyone I've missed.

Boosaphena Goodness me you are a glutton for punishment! I sugguested the snip to DH from my hospital bed, so he wasn't in a position to complain. I have had 2 HG pgs and an emcs so far, he can do some physical suffering for a change!

I'm 9+6. I seem to have been 8 or 9 weeks pg for ever. First of all the Clearblue digi test overcooked me, then I got my dates wrong, then I had a scan in hospital which said I was 8+4 when I thought i was more than 9. 10 weeks tommorow though according to hospital - that seems like a landmark. Quarter of the way there! Bit more, my family tend to have babies about 2 weeks early,

I went in via A&E. Couldn't get a GP appointment and really needed to make the most of the afternoon when DH's boss was out and DS was at nursery. A&E, wee tested, canula fitted and on the ward in an hour and half. Took 5 days of 3 L a day drip to rehydrate me. I knew it was time to go, done it enough times before.

grumblinalong · 30/03/2011 17:31

Sorry, diege how are you? You've gone quiet....

fluff sorry I lumped you in as still in HG world when of course you're bouncing baby on your knee! Baby brain is def kicking in, I had to ask my colleague 3 times today if she wanted sugar in her tea as I kept forgetting her answer Blush sorry again!

Diege · 30/03/2011 17:38

Hello! I have been lurking but have had a bit of odd few days. Started bleeding on Tuesday morning, had scan today which thankfully showed bean with heartbeat and right on target growth-wise. I had been thinking the worst, although sickness never went away Hmm, so am in happy shock tonight!

grumblinalong · 30/03/2011 17:46

Oh, diege you poor thing, brilliant news about the scan though! That pesky bleeding in pregnancy seems common on here but so bloody stressful. I always feel for people who have bleeds as it must be so frightening...are you ok now?

OP posts:
marylou242 · 30/03/2011 17:56

Sorry to hear about the hospital visits, hope you feel better after them though.

Interesting to hear about the snip being suggested. I've suggested this to DH but he is not giving me any positive answers. I haven't given up with him yet, but if I get nowhere, I also will be getting the female equivalent carried out. (Despite huge phobia of anaesthetics - I just can't do pregnancy again).

Diege I'm pleased for you about the scan.

I'm fortunate that I've not been to hospital touch wood but still feel absolutely dreadful. Still nauseous (on the verge of throwing up) 24 hours a day. 'Only' been sick 3 times today though, but the big problem is I just don't fancy any food or drink. I am out of ideas apart from plain pitta breads, I can't even stomach crisps or lucozade and they were my staple diet last time. I'm only 8 weeks tomorrow so preparing for things to get worse. I've already lost 5 pounds.

Have been struggling with DS today. He seems to have started terrible 2s early and is having tantrums about any minor thing. He also tries to drag me out of the toilet when I'm being ill which isn't very helpful!

I'm officially in the cyclizine club, just taken my first tablet. Fingers crossed that it works better than the stemetil. I also saw the midwife this morning and I'm afraid to say ginger and sea sickness bands were among her suggestions. Time for a HG training course I think....

caramellokoalalover · 30/03/2011 18:24

Oh, so sorry to hear that you have been in hospital Bike and Boosaphena. I hope the IV fluids at least made you feel a little better. Small consolation for the boredom of hospital!

Marylou I think our DS's must be on the same wavelength today. The weather is miserable and I feel guilty as I haven't taken him out so he is now starting to show signs of cabin fever and DH is out tonight so I still have the whole dinner, bath, bed routine to get through before I can rest. To top it off Waybuloo is on and it doesn't hold his attention at all so can't use it as my crutch! Damn!

diege so glad the scan showed things are fine. What a worry bleeding is in early pregnancy. Hope you're ok after the shake up.

grumblin I had a VB with DS with a bit of textbook escalation. The dreaded back-to-back, 'failure to progress', syntocin, epidural, failed ventouse, then forcep delivery. charming. end result though was that me and DS were fine and I couldn't actually believe that I would think that that was all that mattered but it did. No expectations for this birth but would love to order a hypno water birth in the glamorous MLU!

nitnat so glad that you're still on a gentle upward trajectory. Hooray to no meds! Now to get rid of the bile runs too!

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2011 19:21

Actually, I don't really mind being in hospital. No responsibilty for anything. Everyone looks after you. Sleep most of the time. It's kind of total surrender, especially when they have you Nil By Mouth too.

weedle · 30/03/2011 21:31

Hello to all,

Thanks for the warm welcome - I wish I'd found you all when I was pg with DD!

I don't know about anyone else but I often felt like I knew more about HG than the professionals I was dealing with! Marylou you're so right about the training courses!

Metaclopromide was the only tablet that worked for me, tried about 5 but I could keep the odd thing down when I was on it. I'm going to book an appt with my GP to talk about possible HG managment if I get pg again. DH and I have decided that whilst we're not 'trying' we're stopping the 'trying not to' Grin And that's thanks to you lovely ladies, you've given me hope! So thank you all, I hope you all have a good day tomorrow x

Boosaphena · 30/03/2011 21:46

Aah good luck weedle!

I have my 12 Wk scan tomorrow... I remember with dd I thought a magic HG button was going to be switched off, glad I'm not deluded this time, but secretly hoping my realism means I'll luck out this time... 3rd time lucky and all that!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 31/03/2011 09:52

Hope your scan goes well today Boo :)

Have come to share a funny tale. Popped to Sainsburys this morning. Followed my nose to the scent of hot cross buns :) Got in there couldn't find them, stood next to the fresh buns in the open racks and a wave of nausea hit me like a train. I was heaving all over, ran to the next aisle, found the hot cross buns ripped them open and ate all four in about two mins. God I must have looked a right weirdo. At least I wasn't sick all over tho! Went to self scan to pay for me empty packet Blush

nitnatnaboo · 31/03/2011 10:45

Tee hee Coconuts I had hot cross bun induced heaving on Tuesday because the smell was so ridiculously strong and almondy . I think we must consider supermarkets a danger zone until Easter has safely passed (and hopefully Caramel's baby has "popped out" in a fluffy blanket) It's like Xmas all over again - thinking back to someone's Xmas pudding display induced vom-fest (was it Grumblin or Caramel ?)

Sorry for those who have been in hospital recently Bike and Boo but glad your poor bodies have got some fluids back in them for now! I loved it in there - no food smells. I arrived in style at midnight, transferred in ambulance from A&E, heaving heartily as I was pushed in the wheelchair, as we had passed the restaurant on the way to the ward (aagh food smells). Saw a toilet in the ward, yelled "stop!" and the nice paramedic pushed me in so I could retch into the loo!

Diege hope the bleeding has subsided. Must be very worrying.

Bike Boo Coconuts Grumblin Marylou - I am also a member of the "I want my husband to have the snip but he doesn't sound very enthusiastic and I really want him to suffer a fraction of the physical demands of an HG pregnancy club

Lucinda where is this relaxation area with the hands - sounds lovely!

Diege · 31/03/2011 11:18

THanks all for your good wishes about the scan. Feeling very relieved as I genuinely thought the worst (bleeding was identical to that of my mmc).
Still a bit of pink/brown spotting, but tapering off (they couldn't see where it was coming from on scan, but suggested break-through bleed as 8 wks, when period would have been due. I never thought low hormones might be my problem Hmm Ironically had worst day of sickness yet yesterday, not able to keep cyclizine tabs down. Ended up puking in kitchen sink after smelling the dds chicken korma. Not a good idea to eat ice cream is it? Blush
Just hoping it's reaching a peak 8-10 weeks and if I just just hold on 2 more weeks I will be throguh the worst Hmm
Good luck Boo Smile
coconuts my goodness you poor thing!
I am back on the crisps and fizzy water (can only eat the ridged crisps) and have gone off crumpets (they seem too sweet and doughy inside, even though I double toast them. My new thing to try is cheese oat cakes. Will let you know if I they do the trick!

Boosaphena · 31/03/2011 12:20

Afternoon all. Well I've had my scan and all is good. I'm also having a good day so it's panning out a nice day all round!
I love the fact it's not just me that has to suddenly wolf down food-v funny image in my head now!
Diege Ive had bleeding with all of my pgs at the same time my 2nd period would have been due-I then randomly go on to be hormonal at that time for the rest of the pg-it's funny how the body works! X
