Recurrent MC tests - what to expect?

After 3 missed miscarriages (with my DS arriving after the first) my GP has referred me for tests to see if there is an identifiable problem causing the MCs - which could just be my age at 40 :(

Can anyone help with what the tests might involve? I know there will be blood tests but how do they test the age/quality of your eggs etc? The GP was very straightforward and efficient about deciding to refer me but I realised after the appointment that I didn't really discuss with her what to expect.

Thank you :)

With my tests I had genealogy blood tests (DH had to have these too) and also day 1 and 21 blood tests to check I was ovulating. They didn't do any tests to check the age and quality of the eggs and think you have to go private to have that done but really not sure, just my experience. Also I have a direct contact number with the clinic at EPU. As soon as I fall pregnant again I have to call them and go for an immediate scan to check if I miscarry before or after a heartbeat is detected.
I was also talked through things to help with successful fertility.
Like I say though, this is only my personal experience (8 MCs, after 1st MC I had my beautiful DS who was a twin in the 1st trimester) and it could well be different for you and others. Hope this helps a little.

Good luck with everything.

Hi there, there is a recurrent mc thread in the miscarriage section if you want to pop over and join us. :) We have a wealth of information from many different ladies and experiences.

If you can't find it, I can link you to it :)

So sorry for your losses, mc is a cruel thing to happen to anybody, so hugs for you xx

Oh - thank you Coconuts - hadn't spotted that there is an MC section. Will take a look.

Thank you too Addicted - have realised since posting that they probably won't do fertility tests - which in a peverse way I find a reassurance ... Wishing you good luck too.

Same as addicted, also had a scan while not pregnant to check everything looked ok. As soon as I got pregnant again did a load more blood tests, I think to do with blood clotting.
Sorry for your losses chestnut

Oh I forgot once I get a positive test for more than 3 days (yes thanks cruel wicked world I've just lost my 9th yesterday Sad ) then I'm getting put onto blood thinning injections. Might not be the 'norm' though as I had them for 10 months with DS as I have a history of DVTs and a PE.

Coconuts I want to join the thread but must admit I'm too scared as it makes it real (can almost kid myself they're just heavy AFs at the moment). Mind you I really don't know how much more I can take. Been trying for 2nd DC for 19 months now and had 7 MCs Sad

PS Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread Chestnut Blush

Guess I should make it clear rather than jumbling my numbers! I've had 9 MCs in total Inc this one but 7 since DS and been actively trying for 2nd DC for 19 months now. Hope that makes sense?!
