Ok i know people say you can tell but can you really? my hospital have a no tell policy and my husband does not wish to know so won't be paying for a scan, will i be able to suss it out and if so how? I do realise a willy means a boy - but what will it look like! Wink

If you do a google images search you will be able to find examples of what girls and boys look like in the scans, if you familiarise yourselves with that you may well be able to tell.

I think it can depend on the type of scanner used too, at my hospital they're all very new and you can see loads, saying that though we saw nothing until the sonographer zoomed in on his bits and actually pointed it out :) Girls are harder to see than boys too apparently.

ShowOfHands · 03/03/2011 19:11

They'll deliberately not show you that bit I'd imagine if they have a policy not to.

DD was obviously a girl, even I could tell but they were specifically looking in order to tell us.

We weren't sure whether we wanted to know, but then DS floated across the screen with legs spread and there was no doubt in my mind! I had studied the online pictures beforehand, and could also recognise DD as a girl, but sonographer had to line up the view!

I had my 20 week scan today and even if we hadn't wanted to know, we would have been able to figure out we are having a boy. The sonographer told me she wasn't going to tell me till the very end of my scan as I would probably cry which would make me shake making it harder to take the baby's measurements. However when she was checking his thigh bones and pelvis, it was blatantly obvious that he is a boy. Grin

With my 1st DS I did ask to find out and they told me he was definately a boy but I couldnt see anything at all - she was right tho.
With my current DC at my 20 week scan the baby was wriggling so much she got a perfect picture of boys bits, and even said for me to not look if i didnt want to know cos it was so obvious! I will have to let you know if she was right when he arrives :)
Obviously ive never seen girls bits but I have been told it looks like a burger! (Attractive thought hey?)
I think you can tell if they get it on the right angle and its clear enough but if your not being told by the hospital they might not focus to highly on that area?

JimmyChoo17 · 03/03/2011 19:55

I tried to take a sneaky peak...(We are not finding out plus our hospital will not tell you the sex either) but despite really looking...I couldnt tell even tho I knew what to look out for.

Legs were crossed but when they scan thru the body I Was told it was possible to tell...

To be honest half of it I couldnt tell what was what.

Like eviscerate said - look on google. I spent a while looking at different ones then at the scan I knew it was a boy. Mind you dh came out convinced it was a girl but I was 99% sure and it was a boy.
