Hi everyone,

Wooohooo!!! Finally!!!

Apologies for the 'TMI' but I need to have a mini-celebration with people who can understand the problem....

After six days I have finally overcome my constipation this evening and been to the toilet!!! I feel soooo much better (although I had to strain and - does anyone else find this? - it felt like it was the size of a watermelon and stuck in the 'opening' for ages and won't move? Ouch!!!)

I hope everyone else is okay and that nobody else is struggling with it today.

Beccy xx

LOL! Thanks :)

That's the worst constipation I've ever had - after 30 minutes on the loo I started to think it was never going to come out!

You deserve a medal for going six days without killing anyone! After two days I'm ratty, after three I hate everyone, I think after six I'd just be a weeping ball in the corner.

Chomp yourself a few figs every day, I found that sorted me out when I was pregnant with DS. And there's always Lactulose, it doesn't make you go but it makes sure it's soft when you do.

Jaquelinehyde · 02/03/2011 23:26

Ooooh it took me six days as well!!

I was given some serious laxatives by the nursing staff (I was in hospital for a week after the birth as DS was in scbu) and they didn't make any difference.

Mind over matter I think.

Beccy2011 · 02/03/2011 23:45

That must have been horrible in the hospital. I have all of the post-birth painful poos to look forward to.

Did you have to keep trying to go, but couldn't - or was it that you just didn't need to go for days and days?

It's the first one that I hate.

I totally feel your pain Beccy! Isn't it the worst! Makes you just feel terrible all round!

Beccy2011 · 04/03/2011 00:16

Thanks :)

It's just awful isn't it - I'm dreading when I next need to 'go' (fortunately not today so far!!!)

I'd never really been constipated before now - not sure if you find the same, but do you find that it feels like the harder you try to go, the bigger it gets to compensate and so you still can't go?

I've never had to spend so long in the bathroom before in my life!

Glycerine suppositories will help ease the passage. I had those prescribed along with iron.

Rozeeglow · 04/03/2011 11:00

Totally empathise with this thread. A sluggish system is quite normal for me unfortunately but in my first trimester I managed a record breaking three weeks before movement was achieved! To be fair I had hyperemisis so not a lot had been going in IYSWIM but all the same...

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 04/03/2011 11:57

Congrats Beccy - you must be feeling really great now.

I'm on iron pills AND I'm suffering from dreadful acid reflux. The foods that help the constipation (dried apricots, muesli, fresh OJ etc) all seem to aggravate the acid reflux. So I'm feeling hard done by whatever way I turn. I was actually GRATEFUL for a dogey stomach earlier in the week that ment everything went straight through me - felt strangely fantastic.

32 weeks PG and these 'minor' complaints (along with a cold, hacking night cough, asthma I only get when PG etc) are really running me down now.

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 04/03/2011 12:21

Congratulations!! I know how you feel - it's horrible. It makes me think that I'm being poisoned with all those poo toxins!

Last pregnancy DH & I went to Paris for a romantic babymoon. My memories of Paris all involve constipation. It was awful! It just wouldn't shift. By day 5 I was even contemplating having an espresso and a red marlboro as they are sure fire bowel openers (disclaimer - I didn't, and have never smoked at all during pregnancy).

This time, I have been taking a spoonful of lactulose every other day. No problems at all :)

theonlyhb2 · 04/03/2011 16:12

it is the best feeling. i keep feeling sick when I need one cos they aren't very often and am so amazed at how great I feel after!

Northernlurker · 04/03/2011 16:21

Grapes are a good natural laxative.

KirstyJC · 04/03/2011 16:21

Wow - well done Grin

I feel your pain - the other day one got stuck and I had to resort to the deep breathing/bearing down exercises in my birth hypnosis CD to get the bugger out! DH kept calling upstairs to check I was OK as I was taking so long Blush

Have been drinking coffee / eating fruit like mad ever since and so far so good.....but I am picking up my iron tablets today from the chemist so I am expecting the worst. ALthough after reading above comments I might see if they have any lactulose as well.

Thank God I only have another 3 weeks to go....

Beccy2011 · 04/03/2011 20:45

Thanks everyone.

And sorry - hope it wasn't too much info. Blush Just helps to have laugh about these issues with people who understand the problem! :)

And Kirsty - poor you! I hate having to sit there for ages like that - I normally just give up and try again later instead.

Beccy xxx
