previous abdominal surgery scars

I have 4 scars on my stomach from abdominal surgery I had about 8 years ago. two are to the left and right of where they would cut for a c section and about 3 inches long, the other two are next to and under my belly button and about an inch long each. There are also a couple of others from where they put holes and stuff, but those aren't bothering me.
I'm 33 weeks pregnant, and for the last few days I keep feeling as if my scars are being pulled apart from the inside when I make a wrong movement. this could be anything from standing up to turning over in bed. It's especially painful with the two longer scars.

I don't remember anything like this from when I was pregnant with DS two years ago, in fact, last time I had the perfect pregnancy.

has anyone else got any experience of this? am I jus being a whimp?

(NB: I have Ehlers-Danlos Type 3, which might have something to do with it, but I don't really know, and my GP really hasn't got a clue about this.)

I have no experience but didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Have you asked your midwife team or consultant? They may well have come across this before.

Even though your previous pregnancy gave you no pulling pains like you describe it wouldn't be uncommon to experience pulling with the scars you have. Maybe it's the way the baby is currently lying/positioned? Or maybe you don't remember it from before because pregnancy makes your mind go like goo Grin

Hopefully somebody on here has experienced this and can guide you better.

But, if you are in great discomfort, give the midwives a call.

I asked my GP about it when I saw her yesterday, and she gave me a blank stare and a shrug. I don't know if that was because she has absolutely no idea about EDS (all of the genetic testing for this was done in germany where I grew up and have the majority of my medical records), or because she wasn't sure what I was asking her about.

basically, the EDS makes my tissue very stretchy, that's everything from ligaments to skin and muscle. scar tissue isn't stretchy. that would be my reasoning for the pain, but I'm not an expert...

Am seeing my midwife on tuesday for bloods and a check up, so I'll ask her then. I'm not expecting much, though.

I had a quick look ongoogle at what EDS is. What you say about the scar tissue makes perfect sense really, but I'm definately not an expert.

Hopefully the midwife will have some experience of this or if not will refer you to a consultant who does.

I'm no medic, but also didn't want your post to go without an answer. I have scars from surgery last year and saw a consultant about them on Monday. She said not to worry at all, that they will just stretch with the rest of my belly. I'm only 19 weeks pregnant though, so don't know how true this is yet!

Is it worth phoning your midwife to see if you could see her any earlier? Or to at least discuss it with you and put your mind at rest?
