Pains should i be worried??

I am 27 weeks pregnant and last night i had very bad back pain and also had period type pains in my lower stomach and alot on the right hand side, I also have a lot of pain down below? could this mean baby is head down and pushing on me?

I am really worried about the period type pains in my stomach as when this happens i really feel like i am in labour is this normal?

I can feel baby moving but she has settled alot and does not move that much.

Any advice would be gratful as i am so scared something dreadful is going to happen

Phone my midwife not sure i even have a number! Last time i saw her was when i was 16 weeks, i must admit i have not had very good care and have felt very alone this time round, even when i did see her she speaks so fast i can not understand her and seems to be bored with listening advising

I will do i will call my GP or the hospital and see what they think, the pain has gone now but this is not the first time it's happened and both times have been at night when in bed.

If you're not happy with the care you're getting from your midwife, call or see your GP. Both issues (the midwife and your pains) are relevant and important. At the middle of a pg you can get a lot of pains, usually due to ligaments stretching, but that's usually nearer 20w. From your nickname I assuem that this isn't your first, but have you gone through labour before?

No this is my 2nd yes i have gone through labour thats why i was not liking the lower pains last night as it was how it felt when i went into labour with my ds. Only difference is this has stopped and did not get any worse that when they started like when i was in labour with ds

I think you ought to get it checked out. You know what you're feeling. It may be nothing, but it would be good to know that! Please do call your GP.

Just ahd a thought - are you booked-in to a hosptial yet? My hospital told me to use the labour ward as an A&E for any pregnancy-related issues, and I called them when I had severe pains at 20-something weeks. They asked me to come in for monitoring. I spent a few hours on the labour ward, then went home when teh pains eased and nothing else was wrong. It was obvious (even to me and it was my first pg) that this wasn't premature labour, but they were concerned that it might be appendicitis IIRC. Turned out to be my fibroid dancing and twisting on its stem.

Thanks prettycandles, i have just looked on my notes and found a number that the midwife has underlined for the day assesment unit, so i called them and they want me to go in, she mentioned i might be showing signs of SPD i think she said? i am just waiting for my sis to pick up ds as he is 3 and would be a nightmare running about at the assesment unit. I will let you know how it goes and i just pray everything is ok and the pains are nothing to worry about.

Take it easy. Don't get worried, OK? Pains are unfortunately normal during pg, and the best thing is to find out the cause.

I hope everything is ok, my sister had SPD in her last pregnancy, its just your pelvis stretching a bit more than it should due to the relaxin in your body. Its nothing to worry about but can be very uncomfortable, although giving birth will probably be a bit easier. My sister got it at about 20 weeks and her little one was only 5 days early. Take it easy and rest up lots.

Well i went to the day assesment yesterday afternoon, and had all the tests, urine, blood pressure and then was put on a monitor to see if baby was ok.

Everything is fine they think i have the start of SPD and have told me to take it easy and see how i get on, i have a midwifes appointment on 3/11 so i will have a chat with her. They said it will get more painful as baby gets bigger but i can get a support belt if i need one.

Everything is so attractive i already feel fat, hate maternity clothes and now they are mentioning a blimmin belt as well, oh well if it will ease the pain i suppose i will do anything.

I slept from 8pm last night till 7.30am this morning i was shattered feel a bit better today had a good cry about it all with dp last night.

SPD is not nice, but neither is it a disaster. Remember that it cannot harm the baby, and will only give you pain - nothing else. I had it too.

Mind your posture. Try always to keep your weight even on your hips - which also means avoiding carrying your toddler on your hip. If you can, go to a physio or osteopath to get treatment and advice. Try never to spread your knees or sit with your legs scrunched up sot hat your knees are higher than your pelvis. Avoid twisting movements: don't get out of the car one leg at a time, but slide round on the seat and bring both feet out together, as if you were wearing a tight pencil skirt. Ditto for turning over in bed and getting out of bed.
