To dye hair or not to dye hair?

Who has dyed their hair in the first trimester? Am off to New York in 4 weeks and the hair is in an awful state. Needs a good cut and colour but just wondering if I should hold off on the colour??

Midwife friend says to not believe all of the stuff on the internet to me, it may come out a different colour because of hormones (unlikely btw) and there isn't any research to say it harms babies unless in concentration 1000 times stronger than in hair dye - if you're worried though try a herbal hair dye instead?

I did, completely healthy DS born a month ago. Have a look at the pregnancy info section on here, info on there which says it's fine to do it.
Congratulations btw and enjoy New York Smile

I dyed my hair through all 3 pgs. My hairdresser liked to do a patch test at least 24 hours ahead each time, as she said that sometimes your skin becomes more sensitive in pregnancy, and dyes that were fine before can irritate your skin.

The amounts which will penetrate your scalp, get into the circulation and cross the placenta are (IMHO) so small that it is unlikely to harm your baby. I do sometimes think that the fumes on a busy city street are more likely to cause harm than a hair dye........ just my opinion though, no scientific fact to back it up.

Thanks everyone, the answers I was hoping for! At least the top half of me will look presentable when I get there even if my mid drift is slightly podgy Wink
