Maternity Certificate?

When do you get your maternity certificate?

I have yet to see doctor/MW, just had to fill in forms with receptionist at surgery.

I am 7wks today and yet to have met my MW or have a date to meet her.

When or when then do I get my maternity certificate?

I got my MAT B-1 from midwife at 24weeks I think - that's the one for sorting maternity leave. I think I got the certificate giving free prescriptions after seeing midwife for the first time at around 7weeks; it just came through the post. Not sure which one you meant.

Thats the one ThistleDoNicely, the one you got through the post for the free prescriptions.

I might give my MW a nudge if I don't receive it this week.

Thanks for posting Smile

I got my Mat B1 form at about 22 weeks, but got my maternity prescription exemption card (used to be called a certificate) much earlier if thats any use.

If you've filled in forms at the GP for your midwife then I think that prompts the certificate, so you'll probably get it in the next week or so. I was surprised to get mine because when I saw my midwife she didn't even get me to do a pregnancy test, I just said I'd done one and got a positive and she filled in the paperwork and I don't remember any mention of the certificate. Thankfully not needed any medication but have registered and been to see dentist - making use of the perks! Grin

That's what I want it for- the dentist! Grin

I got my free prescription paper work when I went to see the midwife, I had to send it off myself. Also my MAT-B1 I had to ask for it, at around 24 weeks, my midwife had forgotten. I think its all depends on your healthcare area and what kind of notes you have. Mine are very confusing to most people, why am I always the guinea pig for new things!

Hi I got my certificate the other day and ten weeks tomorrow!
Feels a bit weird as don't believe I'm pregnant until had my scan which is in couple of weeks :D soooo nervous!

I got my dental treatment without the Certificate (I forgot to take it with me). I just had to sign a form at the dentist. There must be a central register or something.

apples82 · 28/02/2011 15:30

Ooh CrazyAlien06, I hope your scan goes well, must be so exciting to have it round the corner now.

Do let us know once you've had it done Smile

You can get your free prescription form straight away and they post you a card that's like a credit card that you can keep in your wallet.

The MATB1 is different, and is used for claiming Statutory Maternity Pay and you can only get it after 24 weeks, which is the legal limit for abortion. If you have the baby after that, even if it's stillborn, you have the right to your maternity leave. If they issued it earlier you could, theoretically, have the baby aborted but claim the benefits and the leave.
