Pregnancy vitamins

Which vits are you guys taking during early pregnancy then? I am a health nut: been taking tons of different ones. Got my BFP today: obviously will stop everything immediately! ( it was a cocktail of 23 altogether: as am very very nutrition conscious, and a gym bunny; will also cut down a bit on workouts!).
However, apart from the pregnacare with folic acid included, is there anything else I should take? Like iron, or B complex or vit b1, b6 or b12? Just hyperventilating at thought of replacing 23 with just one, two or three!
Please share what you are taking and why?
Thankyou x :-)

I take pregancare plus with Omega 3...also about to start taking Vit D but im a bit lost as to what to take as it always changes!

You could probably help me lol

KatieWatie · 28/02/2011 11:56

I'm also taking pregnacare plus with Omega 3. I think it already contains the right amount of vit D though as well as everything else Confused

The only thing I normally take is Cod Liver Oil because I have bad joints but I have stopped taking this as I read somewhere it's bad to take it while pregnant, but I don't really know!

WinterLover · 28/02/2011 12:30

Cod liver oil is bad as it contains too much vitamin A which is very bad for baby.

I'm taking sonatogen mother to be with omega tablets (1 multi vitamin and 1 omega tablet a day) been taking them before bed for 4 months and never felt I'll with them.

babybumpx · 28/02/2011 12:38

oh maybe your right...i didnt think to check the content of Vit D! i'll consult with midwife when I see her next week and let you know.

JBrd · 28/02/2011 13:56

I take either Pregnacare or Sanatogen plus Omega 3, whatever is on offer. They contain everything you need, and if you complement that with a healthy diet, you shouldn't have to take anything else (unless of course advised to do so by your GP or midwife!).

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 28/02/2011 14:12

23 different vitamins? Shock You do know that a good diet would stop the need for all that?

I used Pregnacare until 12 weeks, now taking nothing, as advised by my GP.

Diamondsamdrubies · 28/02/2011 14:26

Thanks for sharing your experiences and wisdom. Will take either pregnacare or Sanatogen then! Wish that this cramping would ease up a bit more though. The constant background pain and heaviness is worrying me no end.

I took boots advanced pregnancy tablets with probiotics. They contain multivits and omega 3 and there is a separate probiotic capsule. I didn't have a single cough or cold for the whole pg - definitely think they helped support my immune system. Had ds2 2 weeks ago.

Diamondsamdrubies · 28/02/2011 16:04

Congratulations Clareanna! Shall get myself off to Boots tomorrow then: so I can see everything that's on offer. Think I will be biased towards boots own brand now due to your positive experience! Enjoy your new baby! X :-)

I am taking Solgar Prenatal vits as I read they have v good absorption. Also taking omega 3 by MorDHA. V pricey but highly concentrated and free from toxins. I have a yakult every day and taking a garlic tablet.

I am 37 weeks and feel really well physically. No colds and haven't fell run down. Also my recent bloods showed iron levels to be excellent even though I don't eat much red meat. So, I think these things have helped but I have a healthy diet and do lots of walking also.

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 28/02/2011 16:43

I take a specialist Pregnancy multivit PLUS Fish Oils for sure (not cod liver oil but oils from the whole fish) and ProBiotics.

Diamondsamdrubies · 28/02/2011 19:11

Oooo... Lots to digest there then, pardon the pun. It'll certainly be fun looking for what I finally settle for... Especially seeing as you girls have offered such rave reviews on so many different varieties. I think I'll see which ones I like the look of, but have also been recommended here. Thanks girlies! x

Another range that are very good for absorbtion are ante natal forte by Biocare.

lilly13 · 28/02/2011 20:35

I am taken Pregnancy vits by Viridian. They are more expensive then Pregnacare, but are of much high quality. I am also taking fish oils and kelp as a natural source of iodine.

Diamondsamdrubies · 02/03/2011 11:26

Thankyou so very much for your excellent advice ladies! I finally bought pregnacare plus as they were on 3 for 2 in boots today. Thats me sorted for the next few months: and it has the vitamin D and B6 and B12 which I've read are recommended during pregnancy. As the folic acid is included in the same tablet I'm very pleased. Tempted to continue taking them when not pregnant! Replacing 23 with 1 tablet and 1 capsule sounds too good to be true! Thanks for all your advice:-)

I'm now 15 weeks and have been taking Pregnacare plus with Omega 3. Is it ok to carry on taking this after 12 weeks? Has anyone been told that you're better off taking nothing after 12 weeks has passed?

sh77 · 03/03/2011 14:09

My obstetrician said folic acid was pointless after 12 weeks but I continued with my multivits throughout as I didn't want iron deficiency.

WinterLover · 03/03/2011 14:23

Consultant told me there was no 'need' to take anything past 12w but it would do no harm continuing multi vits throughout.

lilly13 · 03/03/2011 14:27

Pregnancy complex by Viridian, more expensive than Pregnacare but of higher quality. My consultant recommended that I carry on with the folic acid throughout pregnancy.

lolajane2009 · 03/03/2011 14:33

i've lost 60 pregnacare somewhere so now I am taking sanatogen mum to be ones.
