Once morning sickness- always morning sickness?

I am considering having a third baby but I have had really horrible pregnancies. I get terrible nausea and have ended up signed off from work. Has anyone had a trouble free second or third pregnancy after suffering really badly first time around? Don't know if I can bring myself to go through it all again.

I completely understand, I was in your situation about 9 months ago, here's my history:
DD1: very sick for first 3 months then got a break of 1 month, the started vomiting 2-3 times a week for rest of pregnancy but not much nausea.
DD2: very sick and nauseous every day for 9 months......horrible and exhausting!

Always wanted a third so told DH he better get me knocked up quick before I changed my mind cause the thought of going through another pregnancy like DD2 terrified me!

I'm now 37 weeks with DD3 and this has been my best pregnancy, between 9-14 weeks I felt awful and I do get sick maybe once a week but I do feel like myself and I can cope and have a normal life which I didn't feel I could last time.

I guess every pregnancy is different and it is a risk but I took the risk and it worked out for me!

I was sick for all three. Maybe not quite as badly for dd2 and dd3 but all pregnancies had severe low points. I's a trade off - you feel like crap but you get your baby or you don't have a baby and feel fine. It is hard. THe sickness was one of many reasons why we stopped at 3 but if I'd really wanted another it wouldn't have stopped me iyswim?

I'm 12 weeks with DC3 and haven't been sick at all this time. With my first two I was sick all day every day for nine months so it can happen that your third is very different. My mum has said the same thing about her pregnancies too.

I have been a LOT better with DC2 than I was with DC1. Was really nauseous and vomiting with DC1 until about 20 weeks and then okay, but it was awful. I was really worried about getting pregnant again. With this one (now 20 weeks) it has been MUCH better. Still nauseous (that's receding now) but not nearly as badly and no vomiting at all. Much more bearable. Not sure whether this has anything to do with DC1 being a girl and DC2 being a boy (we just found out). But yes, it can be a lot better in a subsequent pregnancy.

I had no sickness at all with dc1 or dc2.
This time I've been really sick. Am 16 weeks now and just coming out the other side of it thank god.
So far this pg has been quite different to my first 2. I've got 2 boys so perhaps this one is a girl?

Thank you all. Good to hear that it is not just inevitable that I will feel as awful as last time. I guess it is worth it in the long run!!! I have had 2 boys so maybe if I was pregnant with a girl it might be different (not that I have any control over that!)

I was really sick with my first two, having one boy, one girl( along with every other symptom there is)
I have my 12 week scan tommorow for baby 3.( think im about 13 weeks)
I dont even feel pregnant this time!! So a bit concened to be honest about the scan tommorow.Confused
The midwife thinks its because I still have the hormones in my system, hence no surges of sickness?
I'm Hopeing everything is ok, and I've just been lucky this time?
Lets hope you get away with it too! Grin

23 weeks of daily vomiting with 1st pregnancy plus every symptom in the book.

2nd pregnancy - nothing. Nada. Zilch. Not a single symptom not even a hint of nausea. It was like not being pregnant.

I had a girl followed by a boy.

Firawla · 28/02/2011 22:59

my first 2 i was sick pretty much every day several times til over 20 weeks, so fairly bad sickness. this time had some not too bad nausea in the early weeks but not been actually sick even once and the nausea gone away by about 12 weeks, so much easier this time.
my 1st two were boys not sure about this one yet, wondering if its a girl due to the much less sickness but dunno

Thank you again everyone, you have given me hope! I am desperate for a third and if I can persuade my husband I will try to get pregnant with no 3! I guess I was just looking for some reassurance that it might not be so horrendous. Good luck to all of you that are PG now and hope those of you suffering with morning sickness recover soon. You have my sympathies!
