Small amount of blood...

OK I know this has probably been done about a million times before...

I am 8 wks pg and have just been to the toilet and there was a small amount of brownish blood. This never happened to me in my first pregnancy and so it has really frightened me. I have been having a few pregnancy symptoms but nothing overwhelming (same as last time) but today boobs feel less sore and I have no sickness.

To complicate matters I have had a nasty cold all week which confused me as to which were pregnancy aches and pains and which were from the cold.

Any advice gratefully received.

I'm sure you're fine and it's just a little implantation bleeding, but are you Rhesus negative? If so you should go to see someone as they may want to give you an antibodies jab. I had a little brownish blood and ignored it - before I knew I was rh-, and got a telling off from the midwife. Good luck.

I would give the midwives a call if you are concerned just to put your mind at ease.
I think that as long as you dont have bright red blood then everything should be ok.
Just keep an eye on it and if you are really worried you could always go to A&E and get an early scan.
Good Luck and just try to relax, I know easier said than done.
(((hugs)))

Thanks so much for your quick replies.

I'm not rhesus negative so that is one less thing to worry about I guess.

Fortunately it is my booking in appt tomorrow afternoon so I can speak to the midwife then.

i just happened to be in hospital (with sickness) at 8 weeks when I had a tiny bit of brown blood too, The midwives were not at all worried, saying small amounts of brown blood is normal in the first trimester

lolajane2009 · 27/02/2011 13:10

my midwife seemed not too fussed about my small amount of discharge, although mine was after sex.

Thanks everyone. Just to update in case anyone is in the same situation.

DId have a little (tiny amount) of blood which was redder this morning. Spoke to the midwife this afternoon who told me not to worry if less than a teaspoon, that the brown blood was old and bleeding most likely due to when I would have had a period anyway.

Hi I just wanted to say that I am in the same situation - although earlier in my pregnancy - only 5wks 4 days pg. I had some brownish blood this morning and now am spotting through the day. Have called midwife and she said that although bleeding is never good, it is also normal. I am trying to stay positive although I am very worried. She also said it was far too early for a check up scan and I would have to wait it out. Finding it very difficult to concentrate on anything today :(

God i had a bright red bit on Friday, the day b4 flying home from a week away. I'm 8 weeks and have had a bit of brownish blood a couple of weeks ago.

The bright red bit was right after a tearful angry row in a crowded hotel reception area with a turkish manager. Emotional pregnancy! Lol.

Anyway, the point is, OH forced me to lay down and chill for the rest of the day and i had no more bleeding and feel fine now. I don't know wether it was stress that made it happen or not??

This seems SO common. Don't worry yourself. BIG HUG.
