I have diarrhoea, it started last night, got a small child to look after all day and am 27 weeks pregs. I'm thinking of getting some Immodium, The leaflet doesn't say firmly if you can't take it whilst pregnant. Stuff i have read on the internet says not to take it. What to do?

I am pretty sure you can take it - I travelled to Beijing when 27w pregnant and was really concerned I would get a bug, so asked MW if I could take some with me to use as a precaution.

She was happy with me taking it if necessary, don't remember there being any concern. Hope you feel better soon whatever you decide.

I would check as I am pretty sure that it contains loperamide. I normally take loperamide for IBS but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant. They don't think it causes problems, but seeing as they can't test on pregnant women, they can't be sure.

I was reading up earlier today on dicky tummies in pregnancy for similar reasons and the advice was that immodium was a definite no-no.

My GP gave me a firm no. I've had a silly amount of tummy bugs this pregnancy, but she said just to use rehydration sachets when it got bad.

Apparently immodium itself has not been tested, but some if its ingredients have been proven to be nasty.

Annoying, I know, especially with a toddler!
