Paracetamol for sore throat. Anything else?

I know I am able to take paracetamol for a sore throat but are there any of the lozenges that I can take? It's so painful and have tried some of the "natural" remedies and to be honest they've done bugger all. It will be a week tomorrow since my throat started to go and it's driving me insane now! Am 25+5. Thanks.

Which has often said that any boiled sweet which keeps your saliva up is as good as lozenges for sore throats. Can you still have a steam with Vick? If you can't use Vick, then just a plain steam bath would be good (boiling water in a bowl, put your head on top and a towel over the top).

However if it really isn't going at all after a week you might just want to check with your GP, just incase there is an infection.

I've just had a terrible sore throat (crying with the pain), I couldn't sleep at night. Ended up going to the doctors and she gave me a spray although you can buy it without prescription. It's called 'Difflam', it helped a little bit because it numbs it. Might be worth going to the Chemist and asking about it? I'm 28 wks x

You're OK with original lockets or halls soothers (they don't really do much but the increased saliva production helps) but avoid any of those that have anesthetic in them.

If it's been a week I would go to GP though.

Also check with pharmacist - there may be some infant/toddler remedies you can use safely. Get well soon!

my gp said that strepsils are ok in pregnancy.
the difflam spray works, but I am not sure if it ok to use during pregnancy. in any case, I usually sent my dh to the chemist once I sprouted a bump, because our local chemist wouldn*t even let me buy a nosespray for my child!

Difflam is okay in pregnancy. I was prescribed it recently, I'm 28 wks.

You could also try gargling with some antispetic mouthwash, or corsodyl. If it is relaly bad get some OTC co-codamol.

Thank you everyone. Not heard of Difflam so will have a look for it. I have survived on no speaking, lots of cold drinks and ice cream today.
I always knew my ice cream addiction would come good in the end. :)

Honey and Lemon Lockets are definitely ok and helped my sore throat Smile

Okay, so tried to buy Difflam today but the woman behind the counter wouldn't let me have it cos my doc hasn't prescribed it for me. Have asked hubby to go buy some but just want to make sure that it's definitely okay to take this without docs say so. I need to sleep and this is the only thing I can see that will help!
