Apologies for this ladies.....am 38 weeks and have been on a mammouth day trip today (lots queuing, walking, carrying toddler) probably slightly bonkers but hey ho. Noticed pressure in bum area on way home and am now actually in quite a lot of discomfort, feel like I have one 'pile/haemorrhoid/bum grape'(take yer pick) which is quite, ahem, extended. Any advice because bar a mild case after my first DC its not something ive ever really suffered with. Best treatment???

Not used it personally but a lot of people I know swear by Anusol. Sadly, it probably won't resolve fully until a few weeks (perhaps months, sorry!) after your baby is born.
If it becomes very painful mention it to your midwife or GP as it may need more 'aggressive' treatment.
Good luck.

I had dreadful piles with my 1st baby at about 38 weeks - proper bunch of grapes stuff! I went to the GP just to check they were in fact piles as I'd never had them before. 'oh yes' he said 'I'll just pop them back in for you' (!) 'you'll feel better in no time' Unfortunately, as soon as I stood up the weight of the baby descended and I felt them all pop straight back out again! I didn't have the heart to tell him, he was being so nice and helpful...Grin

Anyway, I got some cream on prescription which helped and they went away really quickly after the birth - basically as soon as there wasn't a heavy baby there anymore. The other thing that was very useful Blush was moist toilet paper - highly recommend it.

Depends how bad it feels. I recommend getting suppositories and cream of the doctor. In order for them to work and really shrink the piles you need to apply them morning and night and after every bowel movement. You have to be quite rigid with this. You can buy cream in any supermarket if you cant wait to Monday to get suppositories.

noooooooo!!! Grin thanks you two (and apologies for the spelling errors, my bum veins were obviously distracting me!) I cant have my doctor pushing it/them in - he's a cutie - that would be mortifying!!!!! I'll definitely get something on prescription if over the counter stuff doesnt do anything though. Thought it was one bloody symptom I'd got away with.....grrrr.

Had these after birth of ds1 - and they only got worse with each birth - 4 dcs now. Used Anusol with the lovely applicator which "allows" you to treat the internal piles as well! Works really quickly - also try ice wrapped in a towel and apply to the area - really helps to shrink them down. Oh and the other thing - try and keep off your feet as much as poss for the next few weeks Wink x
