Really swollen legs in early pregnancy

Hi everyone, newbie here! (Both to forum and babies!)

I've only just found I'm pregnant (2-3 weeks seems to be about right) and I'd been wondering why I was suddenly getting really swollen lower legs and ankles.

They are like elephantitis-legs! Can't even get my shoes on properly. Could this be somehow related to the pregnancy - even this early on?

And I also have some mild period-like tugging/cramp type pain, should I worry?

Everything about the (potential) baby is making me feel a bit overwhelmed...including the amount of information at Mumsnet! I'm a first-time mum-to-be at 39 and clueless about babies.

Water retention is normal. I think it is too early for pre-eclampsia but I could be wrong.
