I've had my scan and noticed that on the scales at the bottom my little one's head circumference and Biparietal Diameter are off the graph at the low end. Everything else is around the average mark.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Also, is there anything I should do?

DC1 was exactly the same. I did worry about it a bit but I figured that they would have said if it was anything serious. When she came out she didn't have a pinhead after all and in fact her head is 75th centile. A few people said that they thought her head was smaller than average but it is really round which is why it looks small - rather than some babies which have longer heads.

If you are worried ask your midwife but it is likely to be perfectly normal!

When we had 20 week scan baby's head circumference was below average, abdominal circumference off the scale at the top end!

By 27 weeks it had all evened out and he is now above the 90% for everything. (I paid for a private growth scan as I was worried)

Hi

I am 36 weeks and have been having regular growth scans every month. Same thing for me at 20 week scan - BPD off the scale and HC on lowest centile, and all else normal. OFD was higher, which suggests that baby's head is long. This freaked me out and so I went for a private scan, which showed m'ments to be normal. However, in follow-up NHS scans, BPD and HC still tracked along the lowest centile. I have been told this is nothing to worry about but it hasn't stopped me from googling frantically for answers. I have been told by two consultants not to worry. Let's see what happens in 2 weeks when I have my c-sec.

Hi, mine was exactly the same at 20 weeks (had an NHS scan). I was very worried and then by 23 weeks, the baby was measuring normal (had a private scan with a fetal medicine consultant). I'd say don't worry about it for now and get another scan in 3-4 weeks. I know I am going to upset a lot of sensitive NHS-loving people on Mumsnet, but I would encourage you to spend GBP100-180 and get a private scan next time -- speaking from a personal experience, it was totally worth it for having a peace of mind! Hope it all goes well for you.

They would tell you if there was anything to worry about re measurements. I'm currently 23 wks and the baby's head measured small (below average) on the charts at the 20wk scan. So I'm going to be having regular growth scans.

Thanks.
Nothing was said to me other than 'here's the paperwork' so wasn't sure.
Will discuss with MW at next meeting and see if I can get aother scan.
