36 week hospital appointment with fibroids

Hi

I found out at my 12 week scan that I had a fibroid - it's 13cm wide and circular so it's not exactly small. I went back for my 20 week scan and was told that it's at the top of my womb (same size) so it's in a good position (won't block anything) but they would reassess later to see if I would needs inducing or ELCS.

I was told to make another appointment to come back when I'm 36 weeks (tomorrow ). Up until now, I thought I was going in for another scan but I've just looked at my notes and it doesn't say 'scan' like my 20 week appointment, it just says CNN (or that's what it looks like). I was really looking forward to having another scan, now I'm not sure I will get one .

Does anyone know what's likely to happen at this appointment? Do they just want to discuss my level of discomfort? If I'm 'prone' to fibroids, what if another one has grown in an 'unfavourable'position?

It's my first baby after trying for a few years to get pg so I just would have felt better if I had a scan - has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Thanks in advance

Hi

Had a similar situation in my first pregnancy, largish fibroids but mine are down by my cervix. At 36 weeks had an appt and then a scan which confirmed that c-section was necessary - but for me this was because of fibroids blocking the exit route(!) and DD1 was also breech.

I'm sure you know this already but pregnancy hormones can make your fibroids grow, which I imagine is why they want to see you again at 36 weeks and I would have thought they will end up scanning you as well. Guess it depends on their position though, and yours are high up.

A year later (!) I am 31 weeks pregnant with DD2 and fibroids are even bigger this time (got pregnant so quickly they didn't have a chance to shrink). ELCS 99% likely but they won't confirm until 36 weeks again. I have an appt booked with consultant at 34 weeks but even though I know I'll end up having a scan, that hasn't been booked in yet.

Hope this helps a bit!
