How big will I be at 13 weeks?

I will be 13+2 on our wedding day - what size dress should I buy??

I usually wear a size 12 and don't have any noticeable side effects as yet, even by breasts seem the same, but I am only 6 weeks and I have no idea how things will develop in the next 6 weeks.

Anyone with experience, please let me know how much your waist and boobs increased by 13 weeks so that I can at least order a dress in roughly the right size (we can always have it altered)

Thanks

I was about 1 size bigger on the waist, no different on the boobs but then they were pretty big to start with!

I have found with each pregnancy (currently on 3rd) I got bigger earlier on - found it much easier to keep it a secret with the first!

PS I was also 13 weeks on my wedding day - my Mum made the skirt/top and left the waistband until the week before!Grin I also held my bouquet lower down to conceal any bump from the photos....!

sunshineoutdoors · 23/02/2011 11:40

I think it will be different for everyone, but for me, my waist was a bit thicker, meaning jeans and trousers wouldn't do up and my boobs increased by a size (they were very small to start with).

It will depend on the style of your dress, if it's an empire line or fuller at the waist you will probably be able to wear a similar size, if it's very fitted at the waist it may get a bit tight.

I would be wary of just choosing a bigger size, cos you will not be a bigger size everywhere - better to have it altered to match your new figure.

Some women's figures won't have changed at all by 13 weeks, while others may have a bump already.

Sorry if this isn't much help! Think if you can you'd be best having regular fittings and get a dress altered for you. Have you bought one yet? If not an empire line dress or similar that fits at the top and under the bust then glides over your waist and hips could be a lovely choice.

Hi Liabella,

everybody is different but at 13 weeks my waist had thickened up and I couldn't do up my jeans. My boobs looked great but weren't that much bigger. Just somehow...better, haha ;)

No idea about actual measurements, though.

Good luck and congratulations on wedding AND baby!

RamblingRosa · 23/02/2011 11:44

It depends on so much: is it your first child? how toned are your stomach muscles, how tall you are...

I had a noticeable bump at 13 weeks. I remember a midwife telling me that I wouldn't need any maternity clothes until about 16 weeks and feeling really embarrassed because I'd needed them from about 8 weeks!

I know other people who haven't shown for ages though.

I would have thought that a good dress maker would be able to adjust the dress to accommodate a growing bump!

Good luck :)

knittymum · 23/02/2011 11:48

With my first I'd gone up a dress size for my trousers and a cup size by that point. Congratulations on these two wonderful things happening together!

Liabella · 23/02/2011 11:52

Thank you for all your help and advice and congratulations. It is all a bit overwhelming - my finace and I said this morning that we're both finding it difficult to keep both things (wedding and baby) in our heads!! Only my mum knows about the baby - we're thinking of announcing it to everyone else in the groom's speech!

I'm 5'4 and work out 3 hours a week, so am fairly toned, although I still like eating, so I'm a size 12!

The dress is empire line, so I'm hoping it will just skim over bump!

Oh yes, forgot to say the first thing to change was my cup size. Had gone up a few bra sizes by around 8 wks. I think I went up several more sizes by the time I reached the 2nd trimester.

nannyl · 23/02/2011 14:14

today i am 11+2, i lost 6kg with hyperemisis (extream sickness) but have put 3kg back on.

even though its my 1st baby my clothes are tight and my days left wearing them are numbered,
i dont think i could get in my jeans that were a bit tighter than these though not tried either

nannyl · 23/02/2011 14:15

my boobs had gone from 34 c/d to 38E by 8 weeks, i reckon they have grown a bit since then too.

ethelina · 23/02/2011 14:18

I didn't have a bump or any thickening of waist til at least 15 weeks. Even then the most I had to do was undo a button and wear a bump band. I think an empire line dress will be fine and look lovely.

ShowOfHands · 23/02/2011 14:21

Empire line will probably be fine.

I had a proper bump at 13 weeks despite being very fit and slim. It was because I'm short. Nowhere for my uterus/the baby to hide. I have a v short torso. Other people aren't showing at all at 13 weeks.

Congratulations!

emmah194 · 23/02/2011 15:56

I had a very slight change in my tummy shape by 13 weeks but only my tightest fitting jeans were too small by that point. My chest hadn't increased significantly either. It all changed a couple of weeks later though ...

stegasaurus · 23/02/2011 16:17

At 13 weeks I still fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes without any problem. I didn't really need to wear maternity clothes until nearly 20 weeks though they were comfier than some of my old jeans, but everyone is different so it is hard to predict how you will be. Like someone else said, you should be able to get it altered anyway. I wasn't pregnant when I got married, but I bought a wedding dress 2 sizes bigger than my usual dress size (I liked it and it was the only one left in that style and was reduced by hundreds of pounds) and it was altered to fit me as well as having loads taken off the length as I'm only 5ft which wasn't easy because of the pattern at the bottom. They can do amazing things to make wedding dresses fit.

lilly13 · 23/02/2011 16:30

i think it depends on how much you eat between now and then. i did not gain any weight by 13 weeks and my tummy did not show (was just a tiny bit bigger as if i was having a period). my waist became slightly bigger as if i ate too much. i did fit into all pre-pregnancy clothes until 16 weeks or so. i am 5'6, size 8; chest expanded from 32A to 34B, but at 13 weeks was still fitting into pre-pregnancy bras (just felt slightly fuller). i have been quite fit though. i did viniayasa/ashtanga yoga 6-7 times per week during 1st trimester; had no cravings except lemons and did not have any morning sickness. good luck!

Tezbean · 23/02/2011 16:31

Hi

I'm a size 12 too and 14 weeks. My waist has got thicker and I've certainly gone up at least one cup size but my clothes still fit.

Have a lovely wedding

curiositycat · 23/02/2011 16:33

I was still fitting into all my prepregnancy clothes at 13 weeks. In fact I was still fitting into them at 21 weeks. Weeks 22 - 26 I went up a size, it was only after then I wore maternity clothes or had any bump. I am a size 10- 12 ish I guess and 5foot 5.

OrangeGloss · 23/02/2011 17:08

I'm normally a size 12 and 12+3, and pre-pg was in the gym all the time with quite a trim tum. Now, nothing will do up and my boobs have grown a couple of sizes as well as being 'fuller'. I have a bloat belly plus a small bump showing above my 'hairline' ( don't think anyone else would notice it tho)

One thought should be comfort, I'm a bit tender and wouldn't want pressure there, so as long as it is a bit flowing you should be fine

Oh, and congratulations!! Grin

jenga079 · 23/02/2011 17:32

At 13 weeks I was smaller than I was before I was pregnant! I guess the most important thing is to get a dress that's easily altered so you can ensure it fits whether you get bigger or smaller. Good luck though, what an exciting year!!

Thank you all for your advice. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by everything happening so quickly, but it is all exciting.

Im 22 weeks tomorrow and still wearing my pre pregnancy skinny jeans!! Have put 4 pounds on and my boobs havent changed a bit. My tummy is a bit hard but thats it.
There is definately a baby in there, i had the scans and i can feel it kicking me Grin

lolajane2009 · 24/02/2011 11:53

I'm just over 11 weeks and I can still get in my size 10 jeans extremely easily. My tops, however, are a right off as I have gone from a 34dd, measured just before xmass, to a 34f/ff now.

witches · 24/02/2011 19:14

Not very helpful advice from me but everyone is different. Im tall and slim and everyone told me i wouldnt show and then at 7weeks had to pack my wardrobe away! Depends on water retention etc too. Good luck with wedding!
