I was wondering how old you are, with your first babies? My antenatal class was made up of women mostly mid to late 30s. I'm 35 and I thought I was leaving it too late! Was nice to see that there are a lot of us out there.

Lmao you're not old! I'm 23 with my first but apparently I'm too mature for my age and the head of a 40yr old. Charming is all I can say Grin

citymonkey · 21/02/2011 15:41

Hey, I'm 30 and pregnant with my first. I'm in London.

Liabella · 21/02/2011 15:43

I'm 29 and will be 30 when it's born. Sometimes I feel old, other times, I feel very young - depends who I'm talking to!

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 21/02/2011 15:52

21 Grin everyone else in my antenatal was mid/late 30s, they were all lovely. it was everyone's first baby and we could all be very nervous together!

Yaya70 · 21/02/2011 15:53

I'm pregnant with my first (I'm 40). Most people I know have had their first babies at age 35 or older.

JBrd · 21/02/2011 15:54

I'm 39, pregnant with my first. Most of my friends started their families in their mid- to late thirties!

boredbuthappy · 21/02/2011 15:54

My sister is 30 and already has 2 kids, 5 and 2.5 with no plans of any more...sometimes I'm envious because she still has plenty of time to do something with her life, other times I'm glad I've lived it up and had a chance to build a career. Although when baby is only 5 I will be 40...will have to make sure I keep fit.

38, will be 39 at EDD.

Left it almost too late, though - ovaries had practically given up - and had to have IVF.

I have a feeling I'm going to get very fed up with people telling me I'm old when I still feel 21, and am otherwise healthy and as fit as anything.

wolfcubEm83 · 21/02/2011 15:55

Im 28, planned to be about 35 when i had my first but had a little early suprise!! Grin

lilly13 · 21/02/2011 15:58

i am 35, live in London, pregnant with 1st child... i think if you are after stats, you should re-phrase your question to account for professional standing / social demographics of the sample you are testing... women with high educational achievements and high power careers typically leave having children till their 30s (not possible to manage this otherwise)... cheers

EdwardorEricCantdecide · 21/02/2011 16:00

i was 23 when i had my 1st, but look really young for my age, everyone at antenatal class was at least 30+ and i felt like thwey were all looking at me like poor little teenage mum. i still sometimes get those looks when out with DS.

Voddy · 21/02/2011 16:03

I am 35 and just had 1st baby. Was told that I'd be surprised by how many women of my age would be in the anti-natal classes. I was actually surprised then to find I was older than everyone by about 10 years and the midwife referred to me as 'us older mums'. Fuck you midwife, you look about 50!

Leilababyno1 · 21/02/2011 16:04

I am 28, London based, 1st baby...

Apparently, average age in the UK to have a first child is 29! Smile

boredbuthappy · 21/02/2011 16:05

Not really looking for stats, was just curious as I was under the impression that I was leaving it too late. I was the oldest person I know having a 1st baby until I went to antenal classes. It's just nice to know that there are mums out there who are in the same boat as me, experiencing the same things as me at the same age. I don't feel old though, I still have the heart of a raving 19 year old (a wise one!).

Think it totally depends on area though, I live in South West London and round here most 1st time mums seem to be older.

My friend was the youngest in her antenatal class at 28!?

ShowOfHands · 21/02/2011 16:11

I was 25 and the youngest. Grin

cocoachannel · 21/02/2011 16:12

I'm 31. Also SW London. I'd guess my NCT group ranges from about 28 to 38.

NoodlesMam · 21/02/2011 16:18

I was 17 when I had my first Blush and 27 when i had my second (and last). Although young with both I can see the benefits of having children younger or older. With my first I was blissfully unaware of the things that could go wrong, just took my mothers advice and managed to get by, not saying it was easy or condoning teenage pregnancies btw I can also honestly say that I was waaaay too young to understand my feelings about it all, and although I have no regrets I would never want the same for my children. I was just lucky to have my mother. 10 years later I had DD2, was far too aware of the things that could go wrong, had a horrible pregnancy and had many health worries with DD2 also, she is visually impaired and will eventually be blind. I'm coping but I very much doubt I would've done if the same had happened 10 years earlier with DD1?

AppleyEverAfter · 21/02/2011 16:22

I'm 29, feel like 80 most days Shock

Sierra19 · 21/02/2011 16:24

Am 32 and due next week with my first.

kittycatcat · 21/02/2011 16:39

I'm also 35 and expecting my 1st boredbuthappy :) One of my friends has just fallen pg with her 1st at 41.

tea4tw0 · 21/02/2011 16:44

i'm 42 and it's my first - i live in Birmingham - i haven't attended any classes yet so don't quite know whether i'll be the oldie of the group, but won't be surprised if i am :)

jasmine51 · 21/02/2011 16:50

Am I winning so far? I'm 43 with my first. Was 40 before we started trying. I'm the oldest in my antenatal groups except strangely for yoga where there are a whole bunch of oldies.
Age seems to be pretty irrelevant to outcome - I have much younger friends in 20s going through IVF and a friend who had her 2nd at 46.

pinkyblueish · 21/02/2011 16:52

Im 26 having my first, but everyone i know has 4+ year olds! my baby will have NO friends!

SusieFlo · 21/02/2011 16:53

I'm 38 and pregnant with my first. Admittedly it has has taken a few years for me to get here, following several early miscarriages.

Thankfully this little chap seems to be staying the course, and at 25 weeks is still moving around in there!
