I was wondering how old you are, with your first babies? My antenatal class was made up of women mostly mid to late 30s. I'm 35 and I thought I was leaving it too late! Was nice to see that there are a lot of us out there.

Hello!
I was 26 / nearly 27 when I had my first, and the youngest in my NCT ante-natal class. The others were 30-40. I suspect hospital ante-natal classes would have been a bit more of a broad distribution (I lived between Lewisham & Blackheath at the time).

I met DH when I was 21 - engaged when 23 - married at 25 - preg at 26. We didn't hang about particularly... it can just take time to find yourself in the right place. Second time round we continued to plan carefully, but it took us 2 and a half years to conceive, so now I'm 32! No wonder people are having families later if it's not your first priority on reaching adulthood.

I'm 40 w/ my first, am due in 2 weeks, and was surprised to find that I was youngest in my class!!!

Voddy, sorry about your mw experience, perhaps she looks 50 but is really only 22 (which is even worse)! I had a mw write/highlight "high risk" on the cover of my med notes, which perplexed and annoyed my consultant to no end.

24 (not currently in UK though). Forces wife and it is common to start earlier but also for the career I want popping children out earlier is probably an advantage because it frees you up for more travel/intensive work when you're assessed on your output.

I'm 25 and will be 26 when my first is born - don't feel particularly young but it seems I am on Mumsnet!

SavannahRose · 22/02/2011 13:46

i was 19 with my first 23 with second!

I'm 34 and it's my first PG - my sister is also pregnant with her first at 36. Not through choice from either of us - she had a reluctant DH and I didn't meet my DP until a couple of years ago. Lots of people around me (deepest darkest Devon)have children very young so hoping that there will be someone else my age otherwise it'll just be me and my sis. :-)

I will be 29 when this baby will be born and hubby will be 40. Thankfully we have a niece that is almost a year old so the baby will have a playmate closer to her age than my other neice that is 6 and my family friends that are 8 and 6.

I'm 36 (37 when due) and a first time mom in September. Glad to know of other mums just like me. Anyone else get anxious when they hear the 'horror stories' about "oo you've got to be careful being an older mom!" - how to make you feel calm before your first scan!

Im 24 will be 25 at EDD. Think it depends on your goals, what u want in life . I always thought i would be around 30-35 but found the right man at 19 married at 23, owned own home for 3 years and have sturdy job as a reception class teacher-just felt ready. I think it just when u feel reda-im glad as 2 of my closst friends (mid twenties) are also pregnant. We live in Kent.

Vix286 · 25/02/2011 10:25

I'm 32 having my first and will be 33 when its born. I am the last one out of my friends most have had their second by now, but DH is 30 (nearly 31) and we are the second out of his group.

Not been to classes yet so don't know how we compare!

Leavingonajetplan · 25/02/2011 10:29

I was 37 - am now 40 and TTC for second. I didn't feel particularly old. At my ante natal and parent craft (you meet friends at these too) classes there was a mix from 45 to 29.

Hiya, I am 35 and just pregnant with my first. I live in London, and I daresay if I had stayed in the small town I grew up in I am sure I would have done a lot earlier. Not many of my friends in London have babies, but all my friends from my hometown have kids, some of them even in their teens now!
