Woke up today with a stinking cold. Is there anything I can take for it?

I'd just stick to plain old paracetamol, and add these to a mug of boiling water - chopped raw ginger, a thick slice of lemon and a teaspoon of honey. I hope you feel better soon x

good question, I've been keeping one at arms length for the last 3 days, woke up this morning with it well and truly taking over my lungs!

So far, paracetamol, tissues, sofa & tv seem to have helped.

Any other ideas very much welcome!

Paracetemol, but also ask at the pharmacy about remedies for infants/young children that might be safe. For example, some cough syrups for kids are just syrup, nothing else, but could ease your cough.

I went to pharmacist last week about congestion and he recommended an infant saline nasal spray.

I used Albus oil before bed which helped with congestion, checked with a few pharmacists and my doctor before using it and they okayed it. Sleeping with the window open and propped up on pillows helped too. I'm an expert now as have 3 horrible colds since January!

Hope you feel better soon.

Poor you, I would also recommend avoiding diary products for a couple of days as they stimulate mucus production (nice), not really a cure but could help not make the conjestion too much worse.

Oh dear, hoping you are feeling better now! I had a stinker of a cold just before Christmas, I found you can safely take Venos Expectorant cough / cold syrup, tastes quite nice too & worked very well! Hope this helps! :)

I recommend using a neti pot. I use it twice a day when sick, and it helps clear all the ick out of my sinuses. Really helps with congestion and also reduces the duration of the cold.

I like to put a few drops of Olbas oil on a tissue & place that on the radiator, makes the room smell all nice & mentholy!

you cant take lemsip when your pregnant??? ops

voscar · 12/01/2012 12:41

I can't do hot water on it's own so I would make diluting juice up with hot water, crush the paracetamol into it, add a slice of lemon and it psychologically felt more like lemsip.
