....I was warned off wearing them during pregnancy and breastfeeding because of risk of blocked ducts/mastitis etc.
How soon after you stop breastfeeding is it ok to go back to underwires? ie - how long is it before your milk dries up completely??

I'm nearly 40 weeks and have worn an underwired bras the whole way through. There is no way I wouldn't wear a bra without wire, my boobs are huge even before become pregnant.

I brought my breastfeeding bras yesterday and they have soft wire in them, it's pretty much the same really, just has a bit more flex in them. I went to a proper shop and got fitted, the lady said nothing about wires, and they have a large amount of pregnant women buying from their shop.

its fine so long as they fit properly and the wire isn't digging in. I have some non wired ones tht O bought last time round but they are quite tight and digging in more than my usual ones so I might ditch them

Highlandgirl - where did you go to get them fitted? I've got huge ones too, so will be needing underwired bf ones but have only seen them in larger sizes online.

Sorry for the highjack.

I know a few people who used underwires and they did cause problems - so be careful!

Hi schmee I went to a lingerie in SW London.

M&S and John Lewis don't really work for me..??

Does that help or are you at the other end of the country??

Highlandgirl · 18/02/2011 21:04

whoops lingerie shop..!

I did some reading on the Internet about this as i couldnt find any nursing wireless in this country and apparently if you have big boobs then wires are the way to go. There is no proof that wires cause mastitis, though apparently lack of support does?? My health nurse also said never to let myself get cold, especially my feet - anyone heard of this? Hmm

i have big bust and would not be seen dead in anything other than underwire. worn my normal bras thru pregnancy then some of the anita bras found here:

www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/anita-nursingbras.asp

they are fantastic and well worth the purchase. was able to go out in public without feeling everyone was staring at my droopy boobs!! there is nothing wrong with wearing an underwire as long as it fits properly so might be worth going in to bravissimo to get sized up first, mind due they usually grow post baby. good luck!

i also have a very generous frontside and after lots of research i bought the anita nursing bras with my first child, i totally recommend them.

Highlandgirl - yes SW London would help for me... which one was it? I too found John Lewis in Kingston surprisingly useless on this front.

Schmee I went to Sheen Uncovered on Upper Richmond Road...Grin
