Vaginal bleeding in late pregnancy

Hi all,

I am 39+6 today :)

I have had vaginal bleeding for about two weeks now on and off.

Initially I thought it was a show but now worried as the blood has gone from bright and fresh to dark, then back to fresh, then dark and now fresh again. For about 4/14 days I have had no loss - just clear discharge. Since this afternoon it has been bring red again and enough to transfer onto a pad and then more comes when I wipe.

I was seen on the labour ward the night the bleeding started and they concluded it was a probable show.

I was seen by the Consultant on day 2 by which time the blood was dark and stringy so he agreed it was probably a show. He checked my placenta and could not see a reason for the bleeding.

I saw the SHO this Monday as I was admitted due to hypertension and he had a look with a speculum and could see no reason for the bleeding.

All my urine samples for the past two weeks have been +++blood and have been sent off for analysis and nothing has come back untoward AKAIK.

ANYONE had a show lasting this long or any expereince of this kind of bleeding? I have to go to the Day Assesment Unit at the hospital first thing tomorrow for BP monitoring/CTG so I will obviously mention it (again) then....

Confused

yes, i had this on and off for several weeks. no explanation was found. gave birth to my healthy baby boy 8 days ago.

sounds like your doing all the right things. keep going back to docs/labour ward with any changes or bleeding. better to have them check than for you to worry.

thank you Crysty it's good to know someone else has experienced this!

I had 8 days of "show" / bleeding following sweep before I properly went into labour with DS. It sounds very much as you describe, although was constant - like a period. There was a lot of blood, and it wasn't at all how they had described a show at ante-natal. Like Crystyclear, no reason was ever found, and DS was fine (well, ultimately - messy delivery, but I don't think anything to do with the bleeding).

I too had this, scared the life out of me as nobody had mentioned that there would be so much blood. Rushed to hospital and they too were initially concerned until i was checked over and all was fine. For me it was not a show as i later had what was obviously the show. No reason was ever found for bleeding. Went into labour later that night.

Good luck, sounds like things might be starting :)

Thank you both - yes it is quite unnerving - esp as this is my 2nd and with my 1st I had a "normal" show with only a little blood and a lot of mucous.
Will mention it again when I go to the hosp tomorrow though noone seems too worried except me!
