Could I be leaking amniotic fluid at 32 wks?

Just wondered if I could be losing fluid - I've been using a panty liner for several weeks for normal discharge, however have noticed in last few days that I have felt damp, on smelling the pad there isn't a urine smell but a very faint sweet smell.... Has anyone else experienced this?

I would get this checked out. In the meantime, you can pH paper from a pet shop and test it (say that you need it to test the water in the aquarium). Check google for details.

I haven't but would definatly get checked out.

A bit of wee leakageis to be expected ime...but amniotic fluid is supposed to smell different (though I don't know what it smells like!)

Good luck

It does smell sweet. I had my waters break 24 hrs before contractions started so I'm quite familiar with it. It's also faintly yellowish. You produce it so it won't run out iyswim but get into the hospital to get it checked out asap.

Thanks all - am going to call my midwife now :-)

Good luck! You do need to be checked over as as has been said, there is an infection risk if your waters have broken.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 17/02/2011 15:44

Please do get checked. I didn't and lost DTD1 at 32 weeks.

Hi
I started to leak at 37 weeks - it started off with a small amount not even wet enough to soak a pantyliner but continued with constant increasing leakage for 36 hours so my waters had broke but I never had the gush that people talk about.Labour didn't start so i was induced 36 hours after leaking started due to the risk of infection.I ended up with a c section as my baby wasn't engaged- but everything turned out fine, so it is best to get checked out.

It was clear liquid and didn't smell offensive at all.

Good luck

I've been told it smells sweet and almost almond-like?

Best go and get checked anyway.

How do you know what's normal pregnancy discharge and what's not? Is there a noticeable difference between the two??

Bit scared now..Shock

sh77 · 17/02/2011 17:37

Good q leila - you can buy pads called Amniosense, which detect the pH of the fluid. They are quite pricey and do the same job as cheap pH paper. My discharge is quite watery at the mo but I heard this is normal towards the end of preg.
