hi, i found out that i have a large septated cyst on one of my ovaries after pains in one side of my tummy and sickness, off we went to hospital 1 o clock in the morning with our 4 year old! after several scans they confirmed that baby was fine but there was a large cyst on one ovary causing the pain.
i was put on a drip, and rested for two days, and the pain subsided thankfully, and i'm home now, but they said it would probably need to be removed at some point, but just monitering it for now. i'm scared of the pain coming back and being even worse next time, but at least i kmow the baby is ok and what it is.
has any body had the same thing? i'm told they are quite common... would be good to hear of peoples experiences, thanks!

Hi,

Is the cyst solid or liquid? I had a dermoid cyst (solid) on my left ovary a couple of years ago - it was quite large, about the size of a lemon. Had it out with a laparoscopy, no problems, although the recovery was quite painful, I couldn't walk upright for about a week. I had two weeks off work after the operation.

You might want to consider having it taken out before the birth? I'd imagine it would be quite tough to cope post-op with a newborn and a young child, unless you have a lot of help at home. What do the docs say? For what it's worth, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and had to have a general anaesthetic two weeks ago for a breast abscess. But of course that's a different part of the body, further away from the foetus.

Let us know how you get on.

my cyst was found at 20 weeks.
They monitored me closely for the rest of the pregnancy and had blood and scans each week. As the cyst was benign it was decided not to operate on me whilst I was pregnant, I would be booked in for a section because the cyst was about the same size as the baby which could result in the cyst and baby fighting to come down the birth canal.

I was going to have the section and cyst out in 1 operation and was booked in for 38 weeks.

2 days prior to section date I went into labour and due to baby wininng the fight get down the canal ended up having a vaginal birth.

Was not allowed back onto the pill after birth incase the hormones made the cyst bigger. had to leave it 6 months before the op.

Finally had the thing out 7 months after birth of dd, it was the size of a watermelon and weighed 5lb! I also lost my right ovary and fallopian tube.

Not really much help I know, but I would assume that the level of pain involved would influence the decision to operate whilst still pregnant. I didn't experience any pain at all from the cyst which I think is why they left me.

Hope things go ok for you!

Hi, I have a cyst on my left ovary. It was picked up by the epu during my last pregnancy. I was being scanned because of pain. The pain subsided after a week or so and it never bothered me again and still hasn't even though DD is now 17 months. It didn't cause any problems with my pregnancy at all.

I believe they are quite common. I went for my 12-week scan (now 14 weeks) and had two sonographers, one a student, and the teacher mentioned a cyst to the student, but obviously not important enough to mention it to me directly or to put it in my notes! If there is one there, it's not causing me any pain.

I will ask questions in 20-week scan, but the reading I've since done about it seems to suggest they're common.

thanks for the replies, its good to hear i'm not alone! in answer to bunnyfrance i'm not sure they said anything other than its a septated cyst (measuring 6.3cm x 6.3cm) i think its got fluid and hard bits inside from what i've be reading, the doctor worried me a bit as he said that if the cyst gest twisted it will cause severe pain, eek! ( it was bad enough last time) and nothing else apart from taking it out can be done. but maybe if it dosn't cause anymore pain, they will leave it alone, well fingers crossed! thanks everyone again! :)
