Just wondering at what week you should put the cot up or when others have put there cot up ready for their new arrival?

Ours is up, i'm 22 weeks, my hubby was very keen to do the manly putting together task !!

It's nice to have the cot up, makes the room look like a proper nursery, but the reality is that your baby will probably be sleeping in the moses basket for a few months (more/less depending on their size).

Cot might be a useful storage place/dumping ground for stuff in the meantime though?

Unless you don't have a moses basket. In which case I'd get it put together by about a month before your due date.

I'm 28 wks, son is still sleeping in cotbed, so I've decided not to worry about the cot until baby is around 3 months old or ready to come out of the moses basket. We don't actually have a room or much space for the cot as DC1 and 2 have their own rooms and baby will be in with us for quite a while, so the later the better for us!!!

I was going to put the moses basket inside the cotbed for the baby, rather than use the moses stand, as i have visions of my 4 and 6 year old accidently knocking into it when running around playing, so thought the baby would be safer surrounded by the cot bars...

I agree with sum04 my dd wil be tring take the baby in her rom to play with so will be so much safer in a moses basket in the cot

I'd say if you have space put it up a month before hand and use it store all of babies stuff.

If you don't have space then I would wait until you have had baby and get DP to do it whilst you are in hospital :)

I'm only 22 weeks and considering it already! I'm getting annoyed with the growing pile of stuff in our bedroom. Will have to start sorting DD's old baby stuff from the loft soon, while I can still be bothered, and the cot would probably be a sensible place to store it all.

saoirse86 · 17/02/2011 15:34

I put mine up at about 27 weeks but it just got dusty. We have a big enough bedroom and I would've had to store the huge box it came in anyway and it looked much nicer as a cot than a box! Grin

I had a moses basket but hardly used it. I just put DD in the cot straight away, it saves the stress of moving them from moses basket to cot later.

Mrs Noggin - I think I put cot up quite early with DC2 (in our room). I left the cover on the mattress to prevent that getting dusty and then stored bits and pieces in the cot until it needed to be used!
