Thoughtless things that non-pregnant people/shops/services do that annoy you?

In Tesco earlier, wanted to buy a Mother & Baby magazine. Obviously the best place to put a Mum & Baby magazine is on the top shelf. Yes, the top shelf.

Obviously not done deliberately or maliciously, just very thoughtless .

I don't really want to get into MIL/DH-bashing, but another example would be DH cooking eggs/fish next to me in the kitchen after I've just told him I'm feeling sick with morning sickness. Or MIL spending the entire weekend banging on about food/new recipes when I've also told her the same.

What thoughtless things do non-pregnant people/shops/services do that annoy you now you're pregnant? The more trivial the better!

(I'm a bit bored today, can you tell?)

People saying 'gosh you're tiny!' followed by 'is everything okay?'. I know I'm small, I have strong tummy muscles, baby is fine, I am not worried, MW is not worried, the next person to ask if I'm eating enough will get a smack in the chops.

People at the gym giving me disapproving looks. I'm pregnant, not incapacitated. Exercise is good and I'm not doing a step class or anything!

People looking at bump and then pushing through doors etc.

i am hoping that what i am experiencing is pregnancy rage, too many things make me angry at the drop of a hat dont know how many times i have had to go grovelling to bf/family members for sudden outbursts and snapping at the slightest thing. cant wait to get back to normal ie bubbly and chirpy and chatty as apposed to miserable tired and short tempered.people were saying to me when i told them the happy news ' oh i thaught u hadnt been acting yourself lately' i was like what do you mean not myself what am i supposed to be acting like etc etc lol funny when i think back to my first few months. currently in my 28th week and someone i know asked the other day if i was pregnant'because my face has got fatter' cheers mate look a bit further down theres something alot more obvious that gives the game away.sheeesh some ppl

A normally lovely lady where I volunteer the other day asked me sympathetically:

"Did mum put on a lot of weight too during her pregnancy?"

Um, well, yeah, she was pregnant. Add to that I suffered from anorexia in the past and still find my changing body shape hard at times. Well, I promptly found an excuse to walk away.

My GP telling me his sister didn't put on any weight during pregnancy and actually got fitter during it, when at the time (6 weeks) I was still exercising 6 times a week and was slim!

My colleague bursting out laughing when I turned to face him last week (19 weeks) with a comment along the lines of "bloody hell where did that come from?", that will be the baby growing in me.

"well there's no hiding that now then" as a pupil walked into my classroom the other week. I actually quite like the fact that I now look obviously pregnant, why should I try to hide it?

Spending a whole day traipsing round looking for maternity clothed only to be told in shop after shop that they don't stock their maternity range.

And second (third? fourth? ..) all the "are you sure there's only one in there?", "was it planned?" and "are you happy?" comments.

OK I've got one that boiled my blood the other day. A guy on facebook posted the following on his status:

"i can see you're pregnant love, no need for a bloody badge saying "baby on board" you're not getting my seat now you smug cow"

And what made me even madder is that one of my close girly friends (who knows I have one of those badges) "liked" his comment.

I was lying awake at 5am seriously p'd off about it.

I've had lots of guys say to me that they really like those badges because it makes it easy to know if you're pregnant rather than worrying about offending someone who isn't. Nothing smug about it!

Being a size 24 and not been able to shop in Mothercare / Asda / New look etc who do up to a size 26 in normal clothes but then only do to a 20 in maternity clothes?????????

My mum who this will be her 13th grandchild saying "well 13 is an unlucky number!"

My friend saying "well you will never lose weight now!"

Sad

Whoever said about the checkout person not asking if they can pack for you. . . totally agree.

They always ask me if I need help with packing, and I never do, because I don't want the potatoes plonked on top of the eggs by some spotty adolescent.

However, I have considered taking them up on it when heavily pregnant, desperately knackered and with the other two bickering and can-I-have-ing, and do you know what: on those occasions, they have NEVER asked.

I think they can tell that you are likely to say yes, and "forget just that once." Clever.

At about 30 odd weeks I saw an old friend (male) at a wedding and in the church he said to me...the first sodding thing, no hello..but:

'Chuffing hell HG you got triplets in there love'Shock Shock

'Wow so lovely to see you too, No just the 1 baby. Anyway what's your excuse for being a fat ass'

Should point out I'm very neat not really put on much weight other than out the front. God I was so cross.

FutureNannyOgg · 20/02/2011 16:59

When I was pregnant I went shopping for maternity bras in mothercare and M&S, both had them on hooks at floor level, both times I squatted down and couldn't get up again Blush

tlise · 20/02/2011 17:18

Valiant1 I so agree with your clothing problem. Have you tried simply be? They have a few more things on there now, and although I am short legged, managed to get a pair of harem trousers to fit (the leggings fall down unless you are 9 months) Don't care what I look like now, I finally have one pair of trousers I can get into. Larger women obviously aren't meant to get pregnant so its our own fault Angry

cbear6 Kick em in the nuts anyway ;) Luckily Nature makes us forget or no way would we put ourselves through it ever ever ever again. Their world stops if they sneeze, they are dying ;)

I was in Boots the other day because I had really bad back pain and wanted to look at the TENS machines - figured it might help with my back now as well as during labour.

Where were they in the store?? BOTTOM SHELF!!! Pregnant woman with backache has to bend down or kneel down in order to get to the products!!!
