Ok I am getting a little ahead of myself as I am not expecting yet! but I am staring to look at private hospitals, so far I have only heard about Portland are there any others?

Have you heard if Portland is good?

Assume you are in London. I was doing this research a few weeks back... there are quite a few NHS hospitals with private wings, which was for me a better choice than somewhere like the Portland as it has the full kit and kaboodle for absolutely any eventuality. If you want a specific consultant, you will find that some of them deliver at more than one of the below.

Other than the Portland I think the ones you will hear mentioned most are:

Kensington Wing at Chelsea & Westminster (my choice, proper hospital, consultant I wanted delivers there and five mins from my house!)

Lindo Wing at St Marys

Landsdell Suite at St Thomas

Sir Stanley Clayton ward at Queen Charlottes

there was a thread on Portland a month or so ago (do a subject search). i am booked at Kensington Wing (private unit) at C&W hospital. looked at Portland twice and decided to pass. the best thing to do is go on tours of hospitals you are considering.

I can highly recommend Stanley Clayton ward at Queen Charlottes. As city monkey says, they have all the experience and equipment you would need for every eventuality, which is the benefit of private care in a big NHS hospital. Wouldn't touch the Portland unless you are looking for a hotel rather than a hospital! Hope that helps and good luck x

Hi thanks for the replies! I will look into those hospitals do you know if there are any private hospitals in the midlands? as this is where I live, however I would think about moving closer to the hospitals in London for the later stages of pregnancy.

I had all my children at the Portland, the most recent delivery was last month and it's quite definitely a hospital and not a hotel!!! I had uncomplicated c sections each time and the aftercare was excellent.
