Thinking about ttc DC2 and keep being told the following. So thought I'd ask the oracle...

  1. DS1 was 10lb 6oz. Is DC2 'bound to be bigger'?
  1. DS1 was born after an induction, failed venteuse and emrgency c-section. will I have to have a c-section next time?
  1. After a few days of hell giving birth, I decided not to breat feed. Does this mean I won't be able to breast feed DC2?
  1. Can Ii be midwife led even if I do decide to have an elective c-section?
  1. Is it easier second time round? Really? I had terrible pnd after DS1 as really struggled to cope with the sleep deprivation. But I feel that this one will be easier because I know what to expect. What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

1: No. My dc2 was 11lb lighter than my dc1.

2: Not necessarily.

3: Definitively not. I've a friend who couldn't bf her 1st, but has bf subsequent dcs with no problems.

4: no idea on this sorry.

5: it was for me. It isn't for everyone.

  1. Not necessarily although quite likely.
  2. Not if you don't want to, or unless you need another EMCS for some reason.
  3. No
  4. If you've had a previous section then your ante-natal care will be consultant led by default. You can opt out if you wish.
  5. I will tell you in 6 weeks!!

I've been under consultant care this pregnancy, and actually I've been very grateful for it because of some additional complications, and I've had the opportunity to speak to the surgeon who did my EMCS and discuss all options to do with ELCS/VBAC. My consultant is quite keen for me to try a VBAC, although the added complication with me is that I've got gestational diabetes so I won't be allowed to go past my due date.

Hope some of that is helpful!

  1. Don't know
  1. Yes

Answers based only on my personal experience. DC1's birth sounds just like yours. DC2 was 2lbs lighter, vaginal delivery with only gas and air although I did have to have a canula(?) in my hand 'just in case' which was really painful and left a massive bruise.

  1. Not always. DD was 10lb then DS was 8lb9oz
  2. Not at all. I was given a choice of what to do.
  3. No shouldn't make any difference
  4. Don't know about this one.
  5. Think it depends on you, the baby and DC1. But you're right, you do know what to expect and it's not as 'life changing' as when you have your first. Life is pretty much the same, you just have two DC to run round after!

I can't answer all of them but DC2 was 9lb lighter than DC1 (9lb 1) - and the first was a girl and 2nd a boy, so everyone had been saying he was "bound" to be huge.

DC2 was also an easier baby sleep wise than DC1, but never had pnd so can't answer regarding that. I also kept him in a sling and just carried on with life with DC1, he just had to fit in, so yes it was less life changing - although luckily for me I never found DC1 hard aside from sleep deprivation, which was very hard!

DC2 was 9oz smaller than DC1 not 9lb smaller Blush - I had to come back and check if I had written 9lb as it popped into my head after I logged out and kept bothering me!

1.My DS2 was 6oz lighter than DS1

  1. Mt DS1 was also born after an induction, failed ventouse and emergency c-section!! DS2 was a spontaneous labour and vaginal delivery :)
  1. After MRSA I couldnt breastfeed DS1 - I breastfed DS2 for 3months
  1. I was consultant led for DS2 - this was only 3 meetings with him. Not much bother
  1. Yes it was easier with DS2 for me!

Thanks all - this has really made me feel a lot happier.

2and1 I did wonder how heavy DC1 would have been!!
