The thing is, I am quite fit, very strong, do a physically demanding job, run around with a 2 year old, get plenty of good quality food blah blah

But have a size 18 waist and big norks.

My midwife does not seem in the least bit concerned. I am 25 btw

congratulations!
if your midwife isnt worried, then you shouldnt be either.
people who weight more, tend to put on less weight during pregnancy than skinny people. so you shouldnt get tooo much bigger. if you are active and fit, then no need to worry, and after you have had the baby, you can always try and lose some weight.
good luck

I have a BMI well over 30
I am a size 22 bottom half and big boobs too. My midwife said she would need to run my 2nd pregnancy past the consultant but he didn't want to see me. I had very healthy pregnancies with both of mine and actually didn't put any weight on, so when dd and ds were born, I instantly lost a couple of stone (sadly it went back on but that's another issue).
If you are fit and healthy, I wouldn't have thought you would have anything to worry about. Keep active and eat healthily.

Cloditz - chill honey, I am 5ft 7inches had a dress size of 20 and weighed just over 14 stone prepregnancy. Had ds 3 weeks ago and am down to 13st 12lb and managed to get into a size 16 today. If the midwife is happy then don't worry.

the only thing they wanted me to do - with both was to take a glucose tolerance test to see if I was developing gestational diabetes - Didn't - in fact my BP and everything was fab when pregnant.

If they don't seem concerned then I wouldn't be.

congrates.
I am 7mths pg with a just 2 yr old and my bmi is more than yours. With ds I was a size 24 and this time i am a 26. It hasnt caused my any problems at all except people are less likely to ask if you are pregnant for fear of insulting you..lol

Congrats Colditz on the pregnancy.

The other comments are all in agreement with my too. I am WAY bigger than you and 13 weeks into my second pregnancy. I was a size 26-28 in my first pregnancy and had no problems at all connected to the weight issue. The midwives didnt seem bothered by it, the only reason I was weighed at the end is that I ended up with an emergency c-section and they wanted to weigh me to know how much anaesthetic to use if they had to gas me, they didn't, I had a spinal instead without any problems.

I'm sure you will find that as long as you continue to keep active (who doesnt with a 2 year old) and dont completely pig out you might not put on any extra weight at all - I actually lost it at the end

I was the same as hockeymum. Size 26ish towards the end of pregnancy and I think I weighed about 20stone with it. The midwives and consultants didn't have any problems with my weight at all and the only concern they checked out was a glucose tolerance test at 30wks, but that was also part due to the family history of diabetes.

The only concern I had was the birth itself. I was induced and the only thing I desperately wanted in labour was to be awake for the birth. After about 8 hours of labour (of a 23 hour labour in total) I asked for an epidural. One of the reasons was because if things went wrong and I needed to be sectioned (which at that time had a high chance of happening) I knew there was more chance of it failing if an emergency arose, thus needing to be put under, so I wimped out at the start!

DS was born happy and healthy and I keep meaning to lose all the excess weight and become all waif-like but can't quite manage it. I'm just one big cushion for my DS to cuddle up to!
