Empty yolk sac :(

Hi all, i am 6wks pregnant today. devastatingly on sunday i woke up and after a wee i had bright red, watery blood on the tissue :( my out-of-hours dr said it sounds like a threatened miscarriage. i had to stay in bed all day then i went to a+e yesterday. at the scan they found a yolk sac, but unfortunately she couldnt see anything in it :( she did say that sometimes it can be too early to see anything and i have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan (this is if i dont bleed very heavy before then) it just feels horrible that basically any day now i could miscarry, and thats if i havent already :( im really dreading this 2 week wait. i just wanted to know if anyone is going through the same, or if theres anyone who had this but went on to have a healthy pregnancy/birth. the dr said sometimes this happens then 2 weeks later they see a foetus in the sac, but said not to get my hopes up. im just so sad because this is/was a very much-wanted pregnancy. any replies would be great, thanks.

Same happened to me. I had a scan due to some light bleeding. Had scan. Saw sac. Had to go back to weeks later, where there was a fetal pole and heartbeat. I am now 40+6 and grumpily overdue!

I know its a very worrying time. I had two bleeds in those early weeks. I got told they are very common, and only to worry if accompanied by severe pain and clots.

Good luck.

My GP told me yesterday that light bleeds in early pregnancy around the time a period would have been due are quite common, sometimes it takes your body a few months to "forget" that it doesn't need to have a period and you can get a few spots at 4-6 weeks, 8-10 weeks and 12-16 weeks.

With my son I went for my 12 week scan thinking I was 12 weeks based on my last period, all they could see was a sac and I was told that it could mean I'd either missed a couple of periods before conceiving or that the pregnancy had stopped growing early on and hadn't come away. I was in bits because I'd had spotting the week before and a previous miscarriage. When I went back two weeks later there was a little bean with a heartbeat, six weeks after that I had another scan and I had a 12+6 week baby in there, I went on to have a healthy little boy at exactly 40 weeks.

There's always hope and when it comes to pregnancy nothing is inevitable or predictable, it could just be that the dates are slightly off and you're not as far on as first thought. I thought I was 11 weeks last week with this pregnancy, I had a bleed last Wednesday and a scan showed I was only 8 weeks.

I know it's scary and worrying but try to take it easy, it's entirely out of your hands right now so the best you can do is relax. I hope everything is okay and that when you go back in two weeks they see a little heartbeat.

I have had this and the result was not possible to predict either way. With my dd I had a scan at 7 weeks where they said empty sac.... but at 11 weeks everything was perfect for dates etc. I found out later I have a retroverted uterus (which apparently is quite common), but it does show scans to be about 2 weeks behind where it "should"! be.

However I have also had several miscarriages and at 6 weeks when they see nothing, it does prepare me for the worst.

The limbo-land time between scans is truely agonising, so I empathis with where you are at right now. My only advice is to try to stay positive, try not to worry, try to distract yourself and relax. Right now you are pregnant and that is what counts right now. Worrying about what might happen is not going to be benefitial for you. I know it is easier said than done, but try to relax. Do anything you can to keep yourself distracted over the next couple of weeks.

I hope you have a positive outcome and that all this worry was un-necessary. Let us know how the next scan goes, we will be thinking of you.

Thank you ladies. i am trying to stay positive but i really dont want to put my hopes up as this would make it more upsetting if theres no baby. the dr asked if i 'feel' pregnant still, but to be honest with you since i found out i was pregnant i havent felt it yet. i had period-like pains and sensitive boobs/nipples since i thought i was due on, and i still have them now but thats about it. i dont really know what i think.
