Confused Preg Results

Brack · 14/02/2011 17:45

Hello.

I am new to this and looking for a bit of reassurance.

I have taken 8 preg tests various kinds since Feb 6 - approx two each day just to make sure I am not imagining things. Every test has been positive. ;-)

I handed in my urine sample to the docs on Monday 7th ( it wasnt a morning sample and looked very clear) I got the results on Friday - Inconclusive.

I am now waiting on blood results.

Doctor seems to think I am preg.

My period is late. I have tender breasts, constipation tc. I have also had a little of bit spotting when I wipe a couple of times aswell. Its not red more of a very pale pink colour - doc also not worried about this.

This will be my first pregnancy and I am very scared/confused. I really just some reasurrance that I am preg and everything will be ok. This might sound daft as i know 8 tests surely cant be wrong ?? Thoughts

When was your period due? Are you normally quite regular in your cycle?

Brack · 14/02/2011 17:49

My last period started on the 23rd December

my cycle is about 33-35 days approx

I came of the Jag two years - I was reg before this and I have been reg for past 6 months

you can't get a false positive, so therefore you are pregnant

the docs use similar tests to the HPTs

it might be inconclusive as it was too dilute and not first morning wee

believe the 8 tests and the fact you've missed a period

spotting can be 'normal' as in it can happen and not be sinister

2cats2many · 14/02/2011 17:52

It sounds like you're probably up the duff to me.

I had lots of spotting with both my pregnancies, some of it really quite heavy at times.

Good luck with it all. I hope you get good news at your next doctors appointment.

BikeRunSki · 14/02/2011 17:53

You sound pg to me. The home tests are just as good as what the doc uses. It sounds like the sample you gave to the doc just wasn't very concentrated. I have never heard of a GP doing another urine test if home test(s) are positive.

I'd say congratulations are in order Smile. And don't be scared, come to MN for all the experience and reassurance you need. Smile. I came here when i was about 2 months pg and have never left.

Brack · 14/02/2011 17:54

I really want to believe it but something inside me just wont let me until the doctor confirms. I honestly never expected an inconclusive result.

BikeRunSki · 14/02/2011 17:56

Have you done another home test since the inconclusive one at the doc's?

lolajane2009 · 14/02/2011 17:57

are you sure they didnt 'lose' the first sample?

my doctors did and were honest but I can imagine some might not be.

Brack · 14/02/2011 17:58

Thanks everyone. I actually felt a bit better just typing my intial post about whats been going on.

I should hopefully get the blood results tomorrow. I really hope they come back positive. 8 tests cant be wrong is what i keep telling myself

youtalkingtome · 14/02/2011 17:58

How odd. Wft is 'inconclusive'?

I think your pg tests are pretty clear, but all you can do is wait.

Assuming the blood test will say 'pregnant', make sure they intend to repeat the blood tests a few days apart to check that hcg levels are rising as they should.

Try not to think about all the possible nasties - easier said than done I know.

I'm in a fairly similar situ but mine doesn't sound anywhere near as promising as yours tbh. Good luck!

Brack · 14/02/2011 18:00

I handed the sample in on Monday - I done another home test right after I handed the sample in to docs. Just for good luck I also done a couple on tue, wed and thurs. (sounds crazy) All positive apart from the docs incon result

OP posts:
Brack · 14/02/2011 18:02

inconclusive - cant say you are preg and also cant say your not ??

Youtalkingtome - Thanks - Goodluck to you as well

youtalkingtome · 14/02/2011 18:11

Yes I guess that's what the sentence means, but I meant to say - how is that possible with a pregnancy test that uses urine? Grin

It's not as though they used one where the control line didn't appear and said 'oh well, bad luck for her, it's only one test per patient'...

I'm veering towards the conspiracy theorist poster who said they'd lost or mixed up your sample I think.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, I'm going to the doctors tomorrow to demand they tell me wtf is going on as well.

BikeRunSki · 14/02/2011 18:12

I don't think 8 HPT can be wrong?

Have you seen the last episode of Gavin and Stacey? She does about 30! Must have spent a fortune!

Brack · 14/02/2011 18:22

Lets us know how you get on tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed it will be good news for both of us.

Re gavin and stacey comment. Yes i have seen it and if it wasnt so close to day i prob would have done 30. Ha ha

OP posts:
Brack · 14/02/2011 18:45

close to day - meant to say close to payday doh

Congratulations. I think some of the NHS tests measure a higher miu than the shop bought ones, so may not show as positive so early. It is probably impossible that 8 tests are wrong an in most areas the docs don't even do a urine test because try rely on the tests you do at home. In fact I was never tested by the NHS and only had "proof" of pregnancy when I had my scan at 12 weeks.

Sparklies · 14/02/2011 21:35

Yes, the NHS tests are often not as sensitive as the home tests. Plus some healthcare people don't see a faint line as a positive, they like to see it super strong. It's probably because 95% of people show up at 6 weeks pregnant or something as they've only just spotted they're late. Doctors don't get people like us who test fifty times a day from ovulation Grin

If your home tests say you're pregnant, you're pregnant. Hopefully you'll get a nice number from your blood tests!

Brack · 14/02/2011 22:07

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has replied. I have got the reassurance I was looking for. Feel a lot better about getting my blood test results. My partner keeps telling me you already know the result. fingers crossed my partner, everyone here and the 8 tests are correct.

Lets hope I can update you all with some good news tomorrow. Night everyone xx

With my DS3 and DS4 I got positive home tests at 4 weeks but didn't get a positive from the docs until 8 weeks. Very frustrating at the time so I appreciate how you feel!

Brack · 15/02/2011 13:28
