Post breast reduction nipple pain in pregnancy

I had a breast reduction years ago - very standard, no side effects or bad scarring etc.

I'm now pregnant and am trying to work out if the nipple pain I experience is part of the standard, "increased sensitivity" or is linked to the surgery.

Aside from standard extra sensitivity, if I experience a change in temperature the pain can be so intense that it can make me cry - it's like someone is poking a burning brand underneath them. And when you look at my nipples (sorry, TMI) they are massively raised and look like they're trying to pull away from the scar. It's not just standard puckering but looks seriously strange.

So, is it because of the BR? And whether it is, or isn't, does anyone have any tips on dealing with it. DH breathing gently on them seems to help, but that's not always a practical solution!

Not really sure the following will help but wanted to post my pregnancy experiences post breast reduction so you can compare. I had my reduction in 2001 and was pregnant last year.

I found that my nipples hurt sometimes as though someone was holding a cattle prod to them. They were quite sensitive to touch, but I don't know so much about temp because I was wrapped up really really warm. The cattle prod thing was expecially prominent in the early and latter stages of pregnancy.

I never had the massively raised nipples though. They just gradually went darker brown. After birth things settled down quite quickly.

Yes, I've had similar sensations after my reduction. I don't know if they're exactly the same for normal boobs but from some people's descriptions, they do sound the same! I think raised nipples are normal, of course they're trying to increase in size as well but can't quite manage it.

I found the application of a hot mug of tea/water helped with the pain (mine only hurt when they got cold though).

And the cattle prod description is an excellent one. It's excruciating. I was starting to worry I just had a ridiculously low pain threshold!

@BlingLoving oh my goodness! I’ve just come across this post after googling the exact same. I’m 3 months pregnant and have been in agony since month 1. I had a breast reduction in 2015 and the pain is enough to make me cry!! I’m so glad it’s not only me that’s felt like this.. did it go away?x

If it helps, I haven't had any breast surgery but when I get chilly and they tighten up/go hard its really hurts! not enough to make me cry but enough that I notice and it's uncomfortable. So judging by that and the previous response I would assume its normal but exaggerated by the surgery perhaps.

I had a breast reduction and implants removed 18 months ago and I’m now almost 4 months pregnant. The pain is agony! It is in the lower breasts on both sides and the nipples. The nipples go completely white and the pain is an agonising burning sensation throughout. I’m having this about once every hour!! It doesn’t effect me when I am asleep.
Please tell me this doesn’t continue throughout? Also is there any medication?
