Decent decaff tea

Has anyone managed to find a decent brand of decaff tea that doesn't taste weird?

I drink redbush tea too, and allow myself one cup of proper tea a day. But, I am on a tea-thing and could drink gallons of the stuff, so would like to find one that tastes nice.

Have bought Clipper organic decaff, but it does have a decidedly weird, chlorine-like aftertaste....

Twinnings is the best for both decaf and normal tea. Its in a yellow box and called everyday tea.

Hardandsleazy · 13/02/2011 19:39

Agree re twinings (tetley and own brand no where near as nice). Rooibos vanilla nice too.

lovemysleep · 13/02/2011 19:43

Thank-you!

Good old Twinnings it is then.

Have some rooibos vanilla, but have gone off that now I'm pg...

another Twinings vote here - tried lots but that's the only one that tastes like normal tea to me

Hulababy · 13/02/2011 19:47

At home we only ever have decaff tea in, always Yorkshire tea. Taste wise we have never had anyone notice the difference between decaff and non-decaff. A couple of friends noticed after a day of being here as they drink a lot of tea and were developing cracking headaches from caffine withdrawal.

I don't like things like Redbush.

AnaYorks · 13/02/2011 19:59

Another vote for Twinings. PG Tips and own brand are just not as good.

Darlingdamsel · 13/02/2011 20:01

I like Tedleys. I am normally a PG Tips kind of girls ... but its not bad.

JeewizzJen · 13/02/2011 20:03

I can't bear the Twinings one for some reason! I prefer PG Tips :)

FirstTimeMum1 · 13/02/2011 21:04

I also vote PG :)

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 13/02/2011 21:07

Yorkshire is lovely - cannot tell the difference

MrsGangly · 13/02/2011 21:37

Waitrose own brand. A tea-snob friend drank this and didn't realise it was decaff.

MrsBakerNeeld · 13/02/2011 22:39

I find tesco own brand (red label?) is pretty decent as long as you give it enough time to brew properly.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/02/2011 22:40

I like the PG tips one, and the Sainsburys own brand and the Waitrose own brand too. Twinings is weak and wussy.

Bumperlicious · 13/02/2011 22:46

I usually get sainsbo's own, but you have to let decaff tea bags brew a little longer.

cocoachannel · 13/02/2011 23:03

PG for me too!

GruffalosGirl · 13/02/2011 23:56

Typhoo decaff tastes exactly the same as full strength, I even drink it when I'm not pregnant.

In fact the only time I don't drink it is when I'm pregnant as tea makes me sick when pregnant.

hobnob57 · 14/02/2011 00:02

A word about decaf - the decaffeination process can be done in 2 ways - either by steam or by using solvents similar to paintstripper. I'm sure the solvents can't be allowed to remain in the tea/coffee in detectable amounts, but I went for Twinings just in case - it is steam decaffed!

solo · 14/02/2011 00:04

I buy either Tesco own brand (in the cardboard looking boxes) or Tetley depending on which is cheaper or on offer.

solo · 14/02/2011 00:06

MrsBN, it's the blue label for Tesco decaff :)

titan · 14/02/2011 00:27

I found the Clipper decaff to have a weird taste too! When I was pregnant I drank lots of Redbush, Twinings decaff Earl Grey (can't tell the difference from normal Earl Grey) and peppermint tea.

lgmum2b · 14/02/2011 04:48

Tetley Decaf for tea and Carte Noir Decaf for coffee both taste exactly like their full caffeine alternatives.

Baileysandbrie · 14/02/2011 05:10

Another vote for Yorkshire decaf here. The only one I've found that tastes like 'real' tea (to me anyway). I've even got DH onto it

Bumperlicious · 14/02/2011 08:45

I've only drunk decaff for years, back when the only stuff you could get was from Whittards.

ecuse · 14/02/2011 10:22

I've been drinking decaff tea for about 3 years, and PG Tips are the only ones I think worth a tinkers toss

stuffedmk · 14/02/2011 10:30

PG Tips
They still aren't the same but the best I've tried.
