Why do you check movements?

Apart from the obvious of course! Just wondering as I have a doppler and if I haven't felt anything for a while then I check for a heartbeat with that. Got me wondering though if there is another reason and should perhaps be a bit more vigilant.

I know, probably a really stupid question!

Because lack of movement can be a sign of distress?
A doppler isn't a replacement for monitoring movements - hence why some health professionals tell people not to use them as they can give false reassurance that everything is OK when its not.

Later in pregnancy, a lack of movement can be a sign that your baby isn't happy.
