Aching hip- suggestions for treatment

I am 38+3 wks and have got a horrendous pain in my left hip.

It is not SPD or pelvic girdle pain but it is in the same place as I fell over on in the ice at Christmas 2009 and hobbled for about 3 wks then. I suspect its all my ligaments giving way.

Having spoken to my Midwife she recommended I take paracetamol- great for 1 day pain went away and I was happy waddling and taking it easy. However today, pain was hideous, a sharp pain every time I put my foot down to walk and on speaking to the local Labour triage centre they suggested cocodamol.

However, I don't think that they believe me that it is only my hip as I am a first time mum to be. I've got lower back discomfort and understand that at this point I'd be in some discomfort but not enough to not be able to walk 10 steps or for my hip to hurt every time I sit down.

I told them I had a warm bath last night but this might have made things worse, yet they suggested a warm heating pad Hmm and said that they could get me a consultant antenatal appointment if I wanted.

Any recommendations before I end up in hospital?

Thanks

My sympathies. 29 wks, hip also playing up intermittently. Osteopath? Physio? The back pain could be because of the odd gait due to the hip. I sometimes use a stick, it gets so bad! My osteopath recommends ice packs for any inflammation, never heat which can make it worse.

Hi Cats, sorry for your pain!!! I had similar aches in my right hip before Christmas (and attributed it to the snow/ice and walking overly cautiously that week). The more I walked or stood, the more painful it became. I felt like a 90 yo! My consultant had recommended physiotherapy, but by the time they called me in January, the pain was fortunately gone (perhaps from resting over the holidays)!

Can you request physio? Try resting for a few days, and maybe even changing to your most comfortable/light shoes in the meantime. Hope you feel better soon!
