Accuracy of NT and position of baby

Yesterday I had the nuchal translucency scan and despite an hour of scanning/prodding/eating and walking around the baby would not move from a prone position (ie we could see spine and back but not profile).

The rather tentative sonographer took consistent measurements of what looked to me like the nt (although obviously I am far from an expert and again the head was not in profile). These were fine and she said that they were consistent but not v accurate.

Has this happened to anyone before? How much store do you think I should put in these measurements? She has recorded them to be combined with the bloods for the integrated test. Because I was 13 + 5 I can't really have the scan repeated. Thanks folks!

Sorry didn't happen to me but it sounds like because of your dates its the best info they have to go with. At least it's being combined with your blood tests.

If the score is even a bit worrying then they may rescan to look for soft markers like the nasal bone and then maybe send you for an amnio. Don't forget lots of trusts don't offer the NT scan at all just the blood test.

At your 20 weeks scan they can usually tell due to the skull formation and you'd still be in time for an abortion if you wanted one. If you wouldn't consider aborting then I guess any diagnosis is only for info anyway.

I hope that helps.

Yes thank you. She did say that if it had been v high she would have seen. It came out consistently at 1.9mm
