Looking for pregnant Mumsnetters to help deliver a petition on the eradication of HIV in newborns

RowanMumsnet · 10/02/2011 13:34

Following on from our Q+A with Melinda Gates and Dr Sipho Moyo from the ONE Campaign, ONE has asked us whether any pregnant Mumsnetters could volunteer to help deliver ONE's 'HIV-free' petition to Andrew Mitchell, the International Development Secretary. You can view and sign the petition, which has over 200,000 signatures, here.

The petition will be delivered to Mr Mitchell in Westminster at 5pm on Thursday February 17, so you'd need to be available for that. You'd also need to be comfortable with being filmed, as ONE will be recording the occasion for posterity. ONE will be providing campaign t-shirts for you to wear, and if any of you feel like volunteering to have your bump painted in the manner of this video that would be grand (but not compulsory AT ALL).

It would also be great if your bump is pretty visible. And finally, we'd like the moon on a stick Wink.

Please sign up here if you'd like to take part.

Thanks,

MNHQ xx

I'm too pregnant, that's the day before my EDD. Hope you can find someone in between!

Muser · 12/02/2011 10:57

I'll do it. It's about a week before I'm due, so I'm pretty visible!

RowanMumsnet · 12/02/2011 13:41

Oooh muser, that's great, thanks. I'll get the eds to contact you.

Good luck EauRouge!

No visible bump here...

PipPipPip · 13/02/2011 09:40

Hi there,

I'm interested in volunteering for this as I've already helped the Terrence Higgins Trust with another HIV-related campaign. I'll be 34 weeks at that point.

I need to be somewhere at 7pm, so would need some information about how long volunteers are needed.

RowanMumsnet · 13/02/2011 16:50

Wahey! Thanks PipPipPip. It should be all done and dusted by about 5.30pm (Westminster). I will email you.

Any more?

GeekLove · 13/02/2011 16:54

I will discuss with DH although it will be a Taff since I will be travelling from the West Midlands.
I will be 37 wks by then.

RowanMumsnet · 13/02/2011 17:01

Thanks GeekLove, let me know what you think. Taffs are fine, I'm a Taff myself Wink

I think you should post on some of the antenatal club threads Rowan, maybe some more people will see it?

RowanMumsnet · 15/02/2011 10:47

Thanks Muser, I am pleading with the eds for a sticky.

I have the arrangements for tomorrow now, I will email Muser, PipPipPip and GeekLove later on today.

I think I can do this too - can I PM you with my email details (or can you see them behind the scenes)? I'll have to leave work a little early and will be cutting it fine with the time but should be able to get there 4.45 max. Is it just a matter of meeting at Westminster?

I'm 29 weeks - splendid bump! Might even let them paint it :)

RowanMumsnet · 15/02/2011 11:50

Thank you Finding! I can get your email address from here, don't worry.

At the moment, the plan is to take you all out for non-caffeinated beverages and cake at a coffee shop near DFID (Victoria), to brief you quickly on what's involved and let you change into your t-shirts. This would be at about 4.15, leaving for DFID at about 4.45ish. But I'll email you all this afternoon with more details.

Hi there,

sounds fine to me. I'll need to head off around 5.30pm but generally sounds fine. Keep me posted on particulars!

Would really love to be a part of this, but im all the way in cornwall, and dont think it would be overly practical getting to london on crutches. :( Hope it all goes well! xx

MandaHugNKiss · 15/02/2011 17:37

Would help but I'm only 9+5 weeks and stomach as flat as a board... wishing you lots of good luck garnering support.

Wigeon · 15/02/2011 17:59

Er, well I work about 2 mins from DFID at another govt department, I usually work 8am to 4pm, and am 28 weeks pregnant on Thursday (with a lovely bump to show for it), so I might have a moral duty to take part...

I might even be up for having my bump painted...(although there might be some hormonal tears if the words say "will she have HIV" like the video...). I'm sure I've got the moon on a stick somewhere too, er, let me just check...

Have you got lots of pregnant women yet? Could you email me details please?

youngblowfish · 16/02/2011 00:26

I just saw this! If it is not too late, I'd love to lend my bump. I am 31 weeks.

RowanMumsnet · 16/02/2011 10:28

Morning all.

PipPipPip, Muser, GeekLove and FindingStuff... you should all have got emails from me yesterday afternoon with the details; could you reply giving your RL names, as DFID need these for security clearance? If you haven't got an email, let me know on here and I'll try again.

Cloggs and Manda - thanks for your support, and 'yikes' about the crutches!

Wigeon and youngblowfish, thanks so much. I will email you.

I've emailed back. Just to let you know, Muser had her baby yesterday! Bit unexpected I think. So I assume she won't be able to make it tomorrow.
