Very Faint Positive Result.....

I have only been trying for a baby since the beginning of January and I took a test this morning and it is definitely a line, but it couldn't be any fainter!! Anyone else had experience of this? I had a negative result 2 weeks ago, but think it may have been too early to show signs of pregnancy even if I was then....the midwife won't see me until 8 weeks so just want to know if I am or not??!!

oh congrats! a line is a line! Do another in a few days and it will be stronger - but you are pregnant, hurrah!

Rannaldini · 10/02/2011 11:53

if it's there it's there
well done

midori1999 · 10/02/2011 12:03

When was yout LMP and what test were you using? Some can give nasty evaps, even in the time allowed. (I found Tesco and Superdrug the worst for this, never got an evap on an Asda test).

It's quite possible you're pregnant, but having done lots and lots of tests myself I learnt not to get my hopes up and in the end always used a digi to confirm.

mumtobee · 10/02/2011 12:43

midori - I haven't had a period since before Christmas, and only stopped taking the pill early Jan so I guessed it would take a while for my body to adjust and for everything to get back to normal.
Interesting to hear about 'evaps' - do you mean when a line appears, but gives a false result? It was just a cheap co-op one - I bought a couple more from boots this morning, but maybe I should have got a digital?

I had the same kind of thing - didn't believe the line because it was so faint (and posted a thread on here!) and the test was just an internet cheapy. But confirmed it later with a digital one, and it was definitely positive. Am now 21 weeks Smile

Congrats!

thefurryone · 10/02/2011 13:20

I also posted pretty much the same thread as this, and like SerenaJoy also did a digital one later to double check and get an idea of how pregnant I was as couldn't remember exactly when my last period had been, now 29 weeks.

Congratulations Smile

False negatives occur but it is very very rare to get a false positive. I'd say you're almost certainly pregnant but go any buy another to be sure - and report back! I had very faint lines at the beginning of this pregnancy (and even one negative test) but it got stronger each day (the bHCG doubles every 24 hours). Good luck!

mumtobee · 10/02/2011 14:36

Thanks everyone - am thinking about doing a re-test on Sunday - fingers crossed it'll be a darker line then...

My 'real' positives were very faint at first too, in fact, less faint than some of the evap lines I got.

This explains about evaporation lines:

www.babyhopes.com/articles/evaporation-lines.html

and this is what my evap looked like, it came up after 5 mins:

(they aren't usually pink, but I had a few pink ones with this brand of test, hence why I stuck to Asda own ones and then digis after that)

If you are pregnat and this mornings test was a positive then by Sunday a digi will definitely show 'pregnant'. I got a positive on a digi on CD 23 this time, having had very, very faint lines on an Asda test for two days prior.

mumtobee · 10/02/2011 15:39

Thanks for all the info midori - my line came up almost straight away, so I'm hoping it's not an evaporation line. My test only has one window with 2 lines in it, the test one and the other very faint one.
I'll report back on Sunday!!

Good luck! (I can't believe you have the willpower to wait until Sunday! I'm impressed!)

CilantroLarry · 10/02/2011 15:51

midori, out of interest, how do you know it's an evaporation line and not a chemical pregnancy? The one you linked to I mean?

mumtobee, false positives are very, very rare. I've peed on a LOT of sticks and in early pregnancy have always had v faint lines. I use ebay cheapies though. Tentative congratulations to you.

SerenaJoy · 10/02/2011 15:53

Me too midori! I tested before work, and bought a digital test on my way in at 8.30!

I didn't pee on it till lunchtime though [proud]

Hope you get a nice conclusive positive on Sunday mumtobee!

Kirsty4278 · 10/02/2011 19:13

Hi mumtobee!

I bought a double pack of Boots tests and used one on Tuesday evening and one on Wednesday morning - it was the faintest positive ever! It definitely wasn't a negative but is was sooooo unclear!

I bought some Clearblue digital tests and did one of those last night and it was a definite 'Pregnant 1 to 2 Weeks' Grin

I would buy a digital test so you can be certain. Goodluck!

ImFab · 10/02/2011 19:17

With DD the dot was very faint and I didn't believe it. But she is definitely here Grin.

midori1999 · 10/02/2011 19:17

Cilantrolarry, because I did rather a few (OK a lot) of tests that cycle, some the same day and with FMU, including some that were more sensitive than the superdrug ones (in the picture) and this was the only one that showed a 'positive'.

I have done a lot of pregnancy tests. Blush

mumtobee · 10/02/2011 21:23

After everyone's comments I tried to get hold of a digital one tonight, one that shows how many weeks pregnant, as this is also a bit of a mystery due to me not having had a period since mid Decemer, but the pharmacy was already closed :(
I was planning on doing a retest with a digital one tomorrow morning (yes, my will power is already failing!!), I'll hopefully get one tomorrow and retest on Saturday morning!!

Update.....
My willpower is terrible!!
Just done another test - with a boots one this time and a definite cross appeared which means 'pregnant'!! :)
Also, managed to get hold of a digital clearblue one, so tomorrow morning I will see exactly how pregnant I am!!

Congratulations :o

For what its worth, although a bit behind the times now, this site has more information than you could ever want to know about HPTs!

mumtobee · 12/02/2011 07:00

Thanks so much everyone!! :)
The digital test this morning is my third confirmation - 'Pregnant 1-2'
Now to start all the planning for the new baby!! x
