Hi
i was just wondering if anyone can help me, i am due my second baby in august and am booked into watford general, i have been reading some really bad reviews on the maternity unit there and as a result i am terrified and am considering switching to the portland and spending a fortune. i have no experience with english hospitals and i had my first baby in a different country and under private care. i am booked into the knutsford suite for postnatal care at the hospital but am worried about the labour

some of the stories i have been reading are that the midwifes neglect woman, woman are left in blood stanied beds, woman screaming etc. it sounds horrible. can anyone give me postive experiences of the hospital. Also would be interested if people think its worth spending the money to go private?

also i am planning on getting an epidural and just wondering do they make you wait for them here or can they refuse you one?? would really appreciate any advice. thanks in advance.

If you live near Watford and it is convenient for you, why not consider a private birth with one of the consultants there, rather than moving to the Portland? Look up The Birth Team - they have been highly recommended to me. If you just book the birth with them, and continue with NHS ante-natal care at Watford, it will work out much cheaper than going to the Portland.
