taken into hospital last night with pain in my right lower half (just above my pubic bone) wasnt scanned as registrar wasnt experienced enough and told to come back tomorrow. 'it maybe ectopic, but you're not bleeding so maybe not'. Terrified as this is a much wanted baby, I was 7 weeks gone Saturday...any suggestions? Sitting in my office trying to work, and clearly not as rambling on here.

Sorry to hear that you are so worried. There are a few posters who have experience with this. Sure someone will be along soon.

Really bad, that they could not scan you last night.

CilantroLarry · 07/02/2011 13:06

I bled at 7 weeks with dd and was accompanied by crippling right sided pain.

Everything was just fine.

I'm 7 weeks atm and having the same right sided pain. Going for a scan on Friday.

Please don't worry unduly. Pain can have several causes at this stage and no bleeding, no strange discharge is a good sign.

When is your scan?

MmeLindt · 07/02/2011 13:07

I have tweeted Aitch, if she is about she may be able to give you advice.

CilantroLarry · 07/02/2011 13:08

Just to add- as I'm sure you know- any worsening of symptoms, bleeding, brown discharge, more pain, shoulder tip pain, sudden onset vomiting or diarhoea, feeling unwell etc, straight to a&e.

belledechocchipcookie · 07/02/2011 13:10

You need to go back and ask them to do an ultrasound. The fact you're not bleeding is a good sign but it doesn't mean it's not an ectopic. You need to go back.

Memsahib · 07/02/2011 13:13

Am now close to blubbing - thank you all so much for posting so quick. The earliest they can scan me is 1130 tomorrow morning, unless I fib and say the pain is worse or that I am bleeding;

Oh I thought you meant your scan was today and they'd said 'tomorrow' yesterday iyswim.

In that case, I'd go to a&e if I were you. They might not have a slot in your epau but the gynae ward can and should scan you if they even remotely suspect it could be ectopic.

CilantroLarry · 07/02/2011 13:16

And I'm not saying that I think it is ectopic btw, just that you deserve (and procedure should be) to be scanned straight away.

CuppaTeaJanice · 07/02/2011 13:16

Do you mind if I ask a question while we're on the topic of ectopics?

Shoulder tip pain is often listed as a symptom. Does this mean the top bit of the shoulder, I suppose where a pirate's parrot would sit, or the tip of the shoulder blade, in the upper back?

CilantroLarry · 07/02/2011 13:17

Where your arm meets your shoulder.

Memsahib · 07/02/2011 13:23

the registrar asked that question 3 times last night - 'and you're sure you've not got any pain in the tip of your shoulder'
I know what you mean Cilantrolarry, but i'm in a typically busy London hosptial. figure i need to wait it out til 1130 tomorrow.

Is the pain still there?

I was scanned via a&e last time and it took 7hrs of hanging round until they did the scan. I understand your reluctance.

It is your choice of course but what price peace of mind (and your health)?

Memsahib · 07/02/2011 13:29

fair point Cilantro, have just spoken to DH (who is convinced all will be ok) and he wants us to wait until tomorrow. keep your fingers crossed for us.

MmeLindt · 07/02/2011 13:39

If you have any pain or the other symptoms that Cilantro listed - straight to A&E.

Good luck tomorrow.

Memsahib · 07/02/2011 13:43

Thanks Mme, find myself popping off to the loo every hour 'just to check', but yes any worsening and I am up to a and e toute suite.

Oh, I was a neurotic knicker-checker during my pregnancies too.

Memsahib · 07/02/2011 13:46

sometimes half the comfort is just knowing you are not the only one doing/who did mad things :)

CilantroLarry · 08/02/2011 10:51

How are you Memsahib?

Memsahib · 08/02/2011 21:08

Scan shows one tadpole esque baby, yolk sac and heart beat all in the right place! The consultant thinks its probably pain from adhesions due to previous surgery.

Thank you all so much for your support.

So to answer your question CilantroLarry....all good!

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Congratulations.

Memsahib · 08/02/2011 23:35

Thanks - grinning like an idiot. :)

Really great news Memsahib.

For anyone in London who has EP symptoms, St. George's Tooting has a self referral, walk in EPU and will scan immediately. They were brilliant when I had my EP last year, and equally when I returned three months later to have a very early internal scan which showed that my current pregnancy was (well, still is- am 38 weeks) uterine.

Another fantastic source of advice and support for anyone who suspects an EP or has one is the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust (ectopic.org.uk).
