Hi..My friend has just had a combined blood test and scan and combined with her age of 39, her risk has come back as 1 in 40. Is this a very bleak outlook? She is understandably distressed and I don't know what to say to her. How long do amniocentesis results take?

this means that her chance of having a baby with a down syndrome is 2.5% or she has a 97.5% chance of having a healthy baby. i think it is a solid result, although i can understand that this is quite worrying. i think amnio takes about 2 weeks, she should check with her hospital. hope it all goes well.

ok..97.5% chance of having a healthy baby sounds better!! i reckon it will be the longest 2 weeks of her life
Thanks for that
