baby weight v fat

Does anyone know how much the baby placenta and other elements weigh as I would like to work out how much weight I will have to lose after the baby is born. I've put on 31 pounds at 37 weeks which I think is too much.

What you have to take into consideration is that the body puts down fat stores on the hips and thighs, in preparation for breastfeeding.

It's perfectly normal to put on between 2 and 3 stone during pregnancy; maybe even more if you are very slim to begin with.

I don't think you can guess TBH - some people have masses of fluid which can push it right up and will all disappear as soon as baby is born.

I found that with DS, the baby weight came off naturally over time (about 3 months or so) and the extra half stone which I had to work to get rid of was probably from chocolate and lazing about in the last few weeks of pregnancy.... so if you're eating healthily and exercising, you should only put on what your body needs and it should all come off without too much effort....?

if you google weight gain in pregnancy, it will give you some sites that ask for your pre preg weight and stuff, and it will give you a breakdown of were the weight goes and how much is a healthy gain for you. 31 pounds is a pretty normal gain tbh

Yes I agree with other posters - everyone is different but I understand that in the US they have a 1, 2, 3 system - the idea being if you are overweight to start with you should expect to gain a stone, average weight around 2 stone and underweight you should gain 3 stone. So if you were average weight pre pregnancy then 31 lbs looks perfectly fine under those guidelines.

I haven't even weighed myself since booking in appt so have no idea how much I weigh. Have given myself a break as I know it's not recommended to diet anyway so would just be worrying unnecessarily. I intend to impose a scales embargo for about 6-8 weeks after the birth (doubt I'll have the energy or inclination to worry at that point anyway) and then assess the damage.
