Hello!

Is anybody else pregnant and taking azathioprine and asacal medication for chrohns disease?
I am on both and am 9 weeks pregnant.

You may have already had advice on this, just noticed your post.
I am 30 weeks and have ulcerative colitis. I'm still taking asacol but stopped taking azathioprine when discovered was pregnant(I was 10wks gone), this was due to mixed messages from doctors, GP and consultant at antenatal clinic didn't seem to know what effects it had on pregnancy and basically left the decision up to me whether to take it or not! They only knew it wasn't to be taken if breast-feeding.
I then asked a friends husband, who is a chemist on his opinion and he found a whole lot of information basically saying not to take under any circumstances during pregnancy! V.confusing.
I've had a mild flare up but does not seem to have affected pregnancy as everything been fine at check-ups.

Thanks for your message, just seen it. Unfortunately I have just suffered a 'missed miscarriage' at 14 weeks pregnant. Am making an appointment at the hospital in the next couple of months to discuss further with a consultant. My own consultant had advised me not to stop taking the medication as I was very ill when diagnosed with the chrohns in 2003 but this has been under control with the medication. He advised that the risk to the baby would be higher if I stopped taking the azathioprine and had a flare up again.
