Can someone help me make sense of my EDD please?

Had my 12-week scan yesterday and I cannot make any sense of my revised EDD, it just doesn't fit with what I know.

This is DC2. DD1 was small throughout pregnancy and both 5 days overdue.

1st day of my last period was 12th November. My periods are very heavy and there is no way I was pregnant before that. I know that I conceived on 21/22 November because that was the only time we had sex that cycle, due to DH being away on business and then having an operation.

All of which would make me 12+1 today, Saturday 5th Feb with EDD 19th August. It's what midwife said at my appointment last week and makes total sense to me.

Except that at my scan yesterday they said I am 13+3.

That's not possible, is it? Or am I missing something? Sonographer was a student with a bossy/unhelpful experienced teacher so we didn't get a chance to ask, and we only really realised what they'd said once we read the notes afterwards.

Can someone help me get my head around it please? Is it just that DC2 is measuring large?

Sorry, forgot to say that new EDD is 9th August. So that's 10 days earlier, quite a big difference.

Hi!! My dates are exactly the same as yours lmp 12th Nov!! How exciting, well I have my scan on Tues so I will report back to you then. Until that I'm 12+1 aswell edd 19th August.
I have many friends who have given birth recently and none of their due dates have been even close. Ballpark. I don't really mind either way just can't wait.

Hello. So I went today and all was great they put me at 12+5 so only one day out so now edd is aug 18th.

I figure you're lucky and you just get to meet your little bundle of joy sooner than me!

I think dating through scans can vary, especially the further along you are. My due dates based on scans varied with DD#1 from August 3-July 23 and my doctor gave me an official due date of July 29. She was born 7lbs 10oz on July 14. I am now pregnant with DC#2 and I am pretty sure we conceived around November 20th and my due date is August 14. So, I say take the dates they give you with a grain of salt, and he or she will arrive when the time is right.

That happened with my DS - I went when I was 12+1 and they moved me by a whole week or something - the date they gave me meant I would have ovulated on day 7/8 of my cycle - which I'm no expert but would be fairly unlikely!

Please don't worry about it - they can adjust your dates at your 20 week scan anyway and they go on scan dates/size of baby for an EDD rather than when you know/think you became pregnant. - theoretically you could have ovulated up to 7 days after you had sex and still become pg as the sperm can live for that long inside you.

Absolutely no reason why you wouldn't ovulate on day 7/8 jellyhead.

Thanks for other comments too. I was doing ovulation tests religiously for the several months before we conceived (didn't bother in November because of DH's manic schedule) and I always ovulated on day 11, which was 22nd Nov.

So am almost 100% sure we conceived on 21st/22nd Nov.

Gah!

It does actually matter to me quite a lot as we have a lot going on at the end of July with family birthdays and social events, and I need to start RSVP'ing/planning accordingly. If my EDD is 19th August then end of July is probably okay, but if it's more like 9th August I'll be more cautious with my plans!
