Just got haemoglobin levels back as 9.9.

From reading past posts on here - that is not considered too low. But level has fallen consistently since first tested and I have been feeling faint etc

I got iron tablets from the doctor today, but would rather not take them - not sure why ...

I've been taking Floradix since the weekend and that's going down fine, so I wondered whether I could take double the amount they suggest on the packet?

Has anyone else tried this?

Floradix contains only 7mg of iron (from memory) Ferrous Sulphate tablets contain 65mg. Marketing blurb of Floradix and Spatone claims it has better absorption rates but I'm afraid my MW scoffed at this. I would take the tablets every time if my hb was low and dropping - not fun but more effective.

I work in the vitamin world of things for a living and day after day I hear nothing but amazing feedback about taking Floradix while pregnant. I took it while I was pregnant and it helped bring my blood levels up really quickly. My midwife told me to take 30 - 40 mg of it per day..the dose on the box is just a maintenance dose so you need to take a higher level if your blood levels are low and then maintain at the recommended lower dose once they're within normal range. The ferrous gluconate in the Floradix is far more bio-available than the ferrous sulfate and it really doesn't constipate at all. I've also been told that Floradix is recommended and endorsed by the ACNM (American College of Nurse Midwives) and MANA (Midwives Alliance of North America) and my midwife had a ton of success stories with using it and says that all of the midwives that she knows recommend it.

So I can say that I've taken a higher dose than recommended on the box while pregnant and it definitely worked for me without any problems. Almost all of the moms in my birthing class took it too and had nothing but great things to say. We forget that our blood volume increases by 50% when we're pregnant and that 1 in 4 women are anemic to begin with...so most pregnant women can dip below normal at some time during their pregnancy.

I hope this helps...I have just had such a good experience with Floradix and keep hearing great things from customers in the health food store and from moms.

Thank you,

I've only just found these replies.

Actually I've been taking just the maintenance dose of Floradix for about 2 months now. But I feel so so much better - just from that.

Have not had my blood tested again since - but just feeling less tired and all my friends say I look more healthy.
