I know second hand mattresses are a no no, but does that apply to a mattress that has been used by my first dc?

I used the same one for my 2nd child 2 and a half years later :)

I have replaced it for my first grandchild 31 years later though !!!!!! Beautiful wicker crib, scrubbed up a treat though :)

I wish I still had my first mattress then I wouldn't have to buy another one now!! Smile

Using the same one for DD as I did for DS - it didn't even get used for 18 months!

debka · 03/02/2011 20:15

I'm using the same one that DD had.

I've bought new for DD (due in 5 weeks). It's something to with with bacteria etc from wee/sick/general baby stuff being in the mattress. SIDS recommend getting a new one for each child to reduce the risk of cot death. I don't the science or statistics behind it, could be a miniscule risk, but one I didn't want to take.

. . . don't know the . . .

dc3 is now on ds1's mattress now that ds2 isn't using it anymore! it's got a removable cover which has been washed and has always had a waterproof mattress protector on so i feel it's safe enough.

If you look at the NHS SIDS advice, it does not recommend a new mattress for each sibling. We didn't bother.
